Before I get any bullshit. I'm aware that a lot is off about this when it comes to history and such (for one it's Hetalia, not that I'm hatin' much but hey...we all know it's true). I'm not the one who wanted it, my commissioner did. I'm just the one who drew the request thank you very much.This is a scene from a fanfiction set in alternate universe (AU). According to what I was told, it's some time after as if America lost the Revolutionary War (before I get shit need I remind you this is an AU FANFIC and I did NOT write it ), Canada pitches in for help. In this scene Russia is offering help to Canada with the use of General Winter.
The uniforms are set from around 1812. I'm not at all aware if their uniforms are correct, or at an appropriate "rank" for a personification of a country. If I'm wrong I'm soorrrry I didn't want to spend so much time looking up any correct uniforms for an AU-set fanfic anyway. At least I didn't put them in their standard WW2 uniforms.

Aw, I remember this fanfic - it was one of the more interesting historical AUs I've seen out there (angstiest ending EVER!). And you did a great job illustrating this scene, too.

I like the feel of this piece with general winter conjuring up a slight snowstorm, particularly the way that the ground Russia and Canada are standing on is in fact still green and bereft of snow though it is encroaching. The general himself is very well done in the way he is somewhat ethereal and blends somewhat in with the background.
You did an excellent job depicting both Russia and Canada without having to stray too far into anime appearances. Their trademark items you worked in nicely to conform to your own style as well as the general shape of their bodies is very well done. The wrinkles of their clothes are superb. Very interesting how Russia is lending General Winter considering 1812 was the year Napoleon marched into Russia but, like you said, a commission and the uniform matches the time period well. Considering Hetalia usually portrays the characters in regular uniforms I would say it was a safe bet with you choices.
Nice work, you played the textures well here to paint the scene. The straps across Russia's chest look rather off though...

A lot of things are off. The background (even though I made it quick because this was NOT meant to be a commission with a background but I felt it would look off without it), a lot about Russia, and so on. This is considered a sketch, I actually spent too long on it then I usually do. XD

A lack of background would make it look decidedly odd and good for you for putting in an extra bit to make it work better. So long as everyone is happy with the end result that's what matters.
