Description Sorry it's so big, if it doesn't fit on your screen. I kind of forget my monitor is widescreen sometimes.

Fullview size is smaller than ACTUAL size (I'm guessing to fit on the screen better), so just click on Download if you want the full thing.

A friend of mine had questions about how I clean up my lineart and I finally realized that I get asked this a lot. It's really not a long process or anything (aside from the inking itself), so I figured I'd make a short tutorial on it...and it soon became a LONG tutorial. XD

So, I apologize if I'm too wordy.

At any rate, enjoy...or something.

BTW

The lineart I cleaned up for this tutorial?

I forgot to save it. So I have to do it again. XD That's a good indication of how forgetful I am sometimes.

But, it should only take me a few minutes to do it again, so I guess I shouldn't complain.

Is it similar performance in GIMP or is there difference between?

Gosh, I didn't even see this comment! I think this was done with Photoshop CS, but it's been a while. The method is still the same in newer versions, though, and probably even older ones since the tools are simple and have stayed mostly the same.

I usually copy, paste, inverse, select, desaturate, auto level, brightness & contrast before I'm finally satisfied with cleaning my lineart... Here? Dodge->Burn. Cleaning the image took me 20 seconds. I'm saving time here! I'm glad I came upon this tutorial

Omg this is wonderful <3
I always hated doing my lineart on a tablet, since I always have my face so close to the paper when I sketch.

This makes my life easier.
You're clever :-D

I user the color-erase pencils. What I do is:

1. Do a myriad of rough sketches with color-erase pencils. Just scribble, scribble, scribble!

2. Go over the color-erase carefully with a mechanical pencil, working out my finished sketch.

3. Paperclip nicer paper (watercolor, bristol etc.) over the sketch and using a lightbox trace my mechanical pencil lines carefully.

4. Ink the very clean sketch with my pens (brush to fine) and almost completely eliminate any need to erase pencil lines, which preserves the deep black of the ink.

XD Taa-daa!
