When he isn't using his music to trick enemies into believing they're going in the right direction when in reality they're headed straight for a cliff, Sphalerite sometimes uses his ability as a service.

Other Gems pay him to play music for them and he does so, causing them to have temporary controlled hallucinations.

These can be random (like seeing a pleasant field of flowers that a Gem can walk through after a stressful mission) or, at an extra fee, a very specific hallucination. Gems use his Specific Hallucinations service to experience or witness things that they have always wanted, but likely won't be able to (Such as traveling to a planet they've only ever heard stories of, or finally asking that hunky Gem from the court out.) Once the hallucination is over, the Gem feels as though their want/need/dream is fulfilled.
So.. basically Sphalerite has a side job as a genie.
Ohgosh he sounds like a drug dealer lolol and he's quickly becoming my favorite and idk how to stop throwing doodles of him at people I am so sorryyyyyy
