Mythical Creatures Challenge #24: KelpieAnother ugly sketch that I plan to complete soon.
Edit: Finished. Kelpies are shapeshifting scottish mythical creatures that can be found near rivers, streams, and fast moving bodies of water in general. They can take forms of many things, but the most common form is a tame-looking horse. Anyone unfortunate enough to pet, sit on, or have any physical contact with the kelpie will be stuck as their skin becomes like tar or a tough sticky substance as the Kelpie then drags you into the river to drown the victim.
I had to research a lot about horses just trying to make the pose okay. I also drew a bridle on the Kelpie as it is said that if you grab hold of that, you can control the Kelpie and have it be your most powerful horse. Also, that bridle may be what leads people to believe the horse is tame and make them more likely to become Kelpie-food. Yeah, I have no doubts that Kelpies eats their drowned victims. The carnivorous horse...
The Kelpie's form is based on a clydesdale horse as a scottish mythical creature would probably take a form of a scottish breed of horse.

I will try to learn to draw human faces better.
Yeah, I think the fish swam away once the kelpie jumped into the river. Thanks for the compliment on the water.

A really interesting scene to look at! You really have a knack for drawing animals it seems, although that isn't t say you arent good at drawing people, but your animals are always really cool looking! Honestly as an animal lover ive always thought the kelpie was a terrifying concept since with almost any tame animal my first instinct is to cuddle or pet it............Needless to say id be dead in a matter of minutes after meeting one of these things! I like how you colored the points of contact between the rider and the kelpie in a darker shade to show off how its skin becomes tar-like!!

You're kind of right; I'm better at animals than people. I don't know why, either they are easier to draw or something.
I'm glad you saw the tar, I was worried it might go unnoticed. Yeah, this is one of those animals you "do not touch or you will die". In this case, they use their cuteness to eat humans.
