Description
Omfug it's finally done...after like, half a year of working on it on and off! It's a new race of therdaq that's been floating around in my head for some time now. They're called abyssal therdaqs, or night mastiffs because of their lifestyle of living miles beneath the earth's surface, living in huge chasms carved out by ancient volcanos or earthquakes and creating tunnels through solid rock with their blunt claws and huge tusks. These therdaqs are famous for their horrible, vicious temperments, even other therdaqs usually avoid them. Luckily for surface dwellers, these creatures are rarely ever seen on the surface because of their hatred of wind and sunlight so if they are seen on the surface it's usually on nights when the air is still and stagnant (hence the name night mastiff). Abyssal therdaqs can be driven to the surface for any number of reasons, but the most common ones are earthquakes opening new faults in the ground or a mining or excavation operation that dug too deep and accidently exposed the therdaq's subterranean lair. These therdaqs exel at any method, magical or otherwise, of controlling earth or darkness.
A typical abyssal therdaq is larger and more heavily built than the average therdaq. Both males and females sport elephantine tusks used for digging and piglike lower tusks for killing prey. Its body is nearly covered in heavy armor plates that look like they were carved from the blackest obsidian and their smooth surfaces glint even in the smallest bit of light. It lacks a mane and the light layer of fur that most therdaqs have, instead, it has a thick, warty hide that can be a dark shade of gray-purple, gray-blue, or brownish in color; the "warts" are usually blue or dark red. Its eyes always glow blood red, or bright yellow and its eyelids close vertically. Its wings are small and not much good for flight, they are usually used to glide across chasms.

Ooh, they look cool. Adding the little jewel things along their bodies is a nice touch.
