Wendigos definately need more love, they're so badass and can be portrayed in so many different ways. Fuck yea Native American mythology!And I'm too lazy to explain exactly what a wendigo is, so if you wanna know, Google that shit XP

Very original, but very different from what they are depicted as in Native American mythology. Wendigo are also known as cannibal spirits from the north. They were plentiful during the days before written language, and are still feared (and in some cases revered) as dangerous and hungry spirits. They are supposed to look like men, but taller, more muscular (though emaciated) with claws and long teeth as expected of a carnivore. they are not so much spirits as undead. They are also known as bonegaga and yeti. Every culture of Native Americans have some form, some as guardians and some as blood thirsty monsters. Stories and sightings have been claimed as far as French Canadian fur traders and hunters encountering such creatures from time to time.Where the areas are darkest is where the creature is said to hold more power. Your right actually, it is a Native American Myth although I'm sure there is probably different versions all over. The belief is that the Wendigo can become as tall as mountains, and is responsible for leading people into blizzards to die as well as cannibalism. Native Americans believed that you would become one if you performed cannibalism, were bitten by a Wendigo, or went into the woods and asked it to transform you.

If you must know: A wendigo is a creature that is similar to a werewolf. However, wendigos are an evil spirit that infects those who are weak and forces them to constantly eat; they're eternally hungry, like zombies. I think another way you can become a wendigo is if you eat human flesh ( cannibalism), the upside is you can live for centuries but you are cursed with eternal hunger and are turneed into kind of like a mix between a werewolf and a zombie. I don't know for sure, since there are many incarnations of wendigos.
The NBC show Fear Itself had an episode called skin and Bones that had a wendigo.
