Description

He was too late.

The moment Jackle had felt Selph's stress and pain through their shared connection, he hadn't wasted a second in booking it as fast as he could to the throne room of their master, where Selph had been summoned only a short time ago by their master Wizeman.

Any fear of punishment Jackle may have had was overridden by his desire to come to the aid of his twin. But as he bust his way through the doors that led to the vast open space that sat just above the Dark Ocean of Nightmare, he froze at the sight before him.

Five of the six mighty hands of Wizeman turned towards Jackle and fixed him with their terrifying gaze. But that was not what had Jackle frozen to the spot.

For Jackle's sight was set on the sixth hand, closed into a tight fist.

A cold dread seeped through his entire being like shards of ice, as it was at this moment Jackle realised he could no longer sense the pain or anguish of his twin.

He could feel nothing of Selph through their connection.

At that moment, Wizeman let out low rumble - could have been a chuckle, could have been a warning, Jackle didn't know - as he slowly opened his hand and from it, fell the shredded remains of his twin.

What happened next Jackle would never be able to fully recall. He might have screamed, which would have explained why there seemed to be a constant ringing in his ears that drowned out the sounds of anything else around him after that point.

He could vaguely remember reaching out, in a vain attempt to catch his falling sibling but something held him back, stopped him from doing so. He clawed and he bit and he screeched, but there was nothing he could have done other than watch the shattered remains of his sibling fall into the Abyss of the Dark Ocean below, and the horrifying realisation that dawned before his mind finally descended into the pits of madness.

Selph was gone.

Not Wizeman.

*coughs* yeah Wizeman ruins things more at ten-

Ngl this was a tough one to draw. So i’ve mentioned a good few times now Selph had been discarded by Wizeman. This was part in due to her not bringing in as much Ideya as the rest of her kin, though unbeknownst to Wizeman she had been hoarding many of the Ideya she had gathered for her own personal studies on how to create her own Ideya core (and potentially one for her twin as well)

This was because their shared core that Jackle carried was still unstable and was prone to causing them both spasms (Jackle worse than Selph usually) which brought about concerns in Selph that eventually it would fail and they would both die as a result.

While Jackle knew of her secret studies Wizeman would not.

Until now.

Wizeman was well aware both Selph and Jackle were effective Ideya gatherers, as proven when they both brought him Pristine Ideya on their first hunt. Selph for a time brought in plenty but started to bring in less and less, and she paid Wizeman less respect than her fellow kin. Wizeman noticed this and began keeping a closer eye on her, suspecting treachery.

Despite Jackle warning Selph about Wizeman getting suspicious, she wasn’t careful enough and one day Wizeman caught her stashing Ideya away in a hidden place.

He was not pleased.

Selph was summoned to the Throne Room not too long after, Wizeman managing to withold his rage long enough to not risk Selph discovering she had been caught and running off as a result.

Jackle would sense the pain and distress of his sibling ans Wizeman tore her apart, but arrived too late to do anything (he wouldn’t have been able to prevent it either way). After watching her ‘disposal’ Jackle lost it completely. He went ultimate Cerberus levels of feral, and even Wizeman had a hard time holding onto him as Jackle began literally tearing Wizeman’s hand to shreds in his rage and despair.

Wizeman would have destroyed Jackle as well, only it was at this point he discovered he was unable to do so (Invincible mantle and all that) and his attempts only seemed to make Jackle worse.

He even went as far as to throwing Jackle into Cerberus’ room, in hopes the hounds would at the very least subdue him given Jackle’s fear of them. But even that was not enough, and Jackle overcame Cerberus, severely injure them in the process before managing to break free and escape.

In his rage and madness, Jackle would have destroyed countless Nightopias, and terrified so many dreamers that a lot Ideya were left in his wake, though he bore them no notice. (Wizeman would later collect them via the Thirds)

At some point his rage would subside somewhat, and Jackle would completely dissaociate. The only thing that would draw him out of his state would be NiGHTS and Reala, who while still only small would be the only ones who would dare go near Jackle. Their presence would help draw Jackle out of his psychosis, and help him process his grief.

He would have no recollection of his actions past witnessing the tail end of Selph’s supposed demise, and thus would not know of Wizeman’s inability to destroy him which is why he would still stay loyal to Wizeman after. (Wizeman plays on this strongly to keep Jackle in line as well threatining Jackle to never interfere like that again)

But the pain of loosing his twin was so great that Jackle eventually forced himself to close off his mind on Selph as much as possible and kept himself grounded by focusing on raising and caring for NiGHTS and Reala. He would not forget her by any means, but he would never make mention of her or speak of her to anyone, including the baby twins.

This unfortunately would cause a misunderstanding to form much later when Selph returns. When she awakens in the dark ocean and escapes its confines, she is unable to sense Jackle through their connection. She would briefly fear Jackle may have also been destroyed but then that wouldn’t explain why she was still alive.

She finds him, but what she sees is not what she expected.

Jackle would be playing with NiGHTS and Reala (who by this point would be the age equivalent of human teens) and he would be happy and smiling and oblivous to her nearby presence. Selph would also notice his loyalty still to Wizeman.

This combined with the fact that connection they had via their shared core was null and void (this being a combined result of Jackle closing his mind off towards her to ease the pain of losing her and the disconnect that occured after Wizeman nearly destroyed her), led Selph to believe Jackle had forsaken her and forgot she even existed.

Not to mention, he was still loyal to the very being who tortured her and tore her apart, leaving her for dead to float forever within the dark ocean.

Selph would feel horribly betrayed by this, and would result in her cold uncaring nature after. It’s also part in due to why she would have nothing more to do with her fellow siblings (though another big reason behind that would be to prevent Wizeman learning she survived)

After this, Selph would only care about herself and her goals, and she would go on to continue in her research to create her own Ideya core. Though at this point it would be a mix of her will to survive, and the spite she feels over what she believes to be Jackle’s betrayal of her.

But because i don’t want to end this on too sad a note, in time Selph would come to learn of the truth of the entire thing and depending on the choices she will make regarding Pom Pom (the little failed first level Nightmaren she has plans to harvest) she may or may not end up re-uniting with Jackle one day.

Also this would be one of the biggest leading factors to Jackle's madness. Prior he wasn't quite as mentally unstable, but his mental state would have been very fragile mainly due to the nature of their creation, and the treatment both him and Selph recieved before they had matured enough to go on their first Ideya hunt. (I'll be expanding on that more in a later post)

I will be getting back to the silly and fluffy stuff again eventually, but gotta get through a bit of angsty stuff first :'D
