Seriously, this is probably one of the best pixel art things I've seen in a long time. I love all the detail and nigh-on perfect shading. I especially like the roughness of the background shading.
It kinda reminds me of the cutscenes in OneShot where you enter a new area and you get a pixel art image of Niko staring out at the area.

I did this picture in Photoshop, then I added an extra layer, adding some few pixels to the character's shape, repeating the process until I got like 5 layers; then in the animation panel, I put frames from 1 to 5, then to 1, so she looks like breathing.Β
With those frames ready I repeated the process with the background lights and shadows, and other details.

Only 5 times?! Granted it's a short movement but still it's insanely smooth especially for pixel art. Reminds me of the amazing backgrounds of The Dig

yeah 5 towards and 5 the same frames in reverse, I also repeated this 2 times so they are like 20 frames; as I got 20 frames I added some layers apart toΒ
create other elements moving around, like the orbs spinning in the dark pillar.Β
