is there a way to get a transparent background other than just rendering to png in MMD?

MoonTheBlueNeko In reply to Bella-Swan-Fan [2011-10-17 23:48:02 +0000 UTC]

Yes render it as a PNG. (my backround isn't transparent. i have some werid sky in the backround.)

Erm... how do you mean 'transparent'?
Technically MMD is always going to render it flat so it has *something* there, but you can just select and delete the blank white in GIMP/Photoshop and make it transparent that way.

I have gimp... but I don't know how to do that with gimp. is there a tutorial or something for that?

JerisEnigma In reply to Bella-Swan-Fan [2011-10-18 21:05:58 +0000 UTC]

Just make a new layer in GIMP, making sure it's set to transparent and not white/foreground color. It should show light and dark grey squares for that layer.
Paste your pic on that layer and select the part you want transparent. You can do this however you want or know how, I usually use the wand tool or color selector to choose all of that section.
Delete that selected part or erase it. Going to Edit -> Clear selection is best.
Delete any non-transparent layers like the white background one GIMP automatically starts with and save the new pic as a PNG.

[If you're still confused, note me or comment on my page so we don't spam up Bella's comments. I'm happy to help, as always~]

I think she means no background... but yeah in gimp you have the option of turning off your first layer so it can be "back groundless" in a sense.. if she means transparent i guess you would mess with the opacity in GIMP

Did you make sure you didn't have a backround on?

if you open a PNG in a program like MS paint the transparency vanishes

No. I didn't have background on.
