In colder habitats ferreoths tend to have more pale and faded coloration. On far north you can even find completely white ones, although they are certainly not using it for mimicry.

Ferreoth (Lutranem Magiptera) is rather common species of magical creatures. Typically they are small (about 30-40 sm) flying creatures with long and slender body. Their fur and wings have various colorations and patterns, depending of habitat and genetics. Ferreoths are living in family groups, travelling constantly, and each flock can have its own unique pattern.
They are widely known for their playful, inquisitive nature, though these creatures also very intelligent and capable to posess different magical abilities. Ferreoths actually need a presence of magic to be healthy, however they can adapt to a very low magic levels. Head antennae allows them to sense presence of each other and also to find sources of magic nearby. All that makes them a perfect familiars for magic users.
Ferreoths also are very affectionate. If one chooses a person to follow, its almost impossible to make them change their mind.
