Description
Hey Guys!!(Finally) back withΒ My Big Disney Project !!
15th drawing in this series: Mary Poppins! It was a movie I saw with my brothers and my grandparents a zillion times as a kid
So, I guess this scene came naturally to my mind when I decided to begin this drawing
As references, I used a few screenshots from the movie... the dancing poses come from the scene with the penguins, the rest from "step in time"
DeviantArtists, step in time!
DeviantArtists, step in time!
Never need a reason,
Never need a rhyme
DeviantArtists, step in time!
Material:
- Canson 1557 paper
- Faber Castell "Pitt" Black Markers
- Various color pencils
- a paper towel to stump the sky and put some black dust on the charas
What I learned / will remember:
- Even if they're not perfect, anatomically speaking, it was fun to draw these dynamic poses... I will do that again for sure!
- I really need more practice in profile-drawing (and 3/4 from behind)... Bert's and the kids' faces were really difficult to get... but I'm happy with the final result!
- Smudging their faces was great fun, even if I felt bad at the idea of messing up with their faces
- For the light: wanted to give the piece a "Hollywood Darkness" feel... I'm not so sure about the result, but it looks like night anyway
- Yay for drawing hands!! I took a pic of Hubby's hand and of us holding hands for references and tried to do my best... no shortcuts, no hiding-the-hands-on-purpose... it was difficult, but interesting! and I'm pleased with the outcome!

Great tribute to such a wonderful film! Love the joy on Bert's face and the prim and proper (but know she's having the time of her life) smile on Mary!

I like that you included the children here! They often get overlooked.
You did a good job caricaturing their faces into a more cartoonish look. ^.^

Thanks for saying so!! Indeed, they're often overlooked, even if there would be no story without them...

Die Figur, die mir am besten in deiner Zeichnung gefΓ€llt, ist Mary. Ihre Pose ist sehr schΓΆn gezeichnet.

I love that movie and this scene is one of my favorites! Β Such a catchy, happy song! Β Nice perspective on the rooftops and I'm so happy that you remembered the tiny flowers on Mary's hat (most people forget them).
Oh, your grandfather was a chimney sweep! Β How interesting! Β
I'm wondering how the new version of the movie will be. Β The advance reviews for "Beauty and the Beast" have all been good, so I'm hoping that it will be good too!
