I don't know why this doesn't have any comments. It's very helpful and informative, and points to somethings that I hadn't realized yet. Just one question though, what you you mean in step 3 about not drawing a horse head flat? Could you give me an exemple?

What I mean by that is that the front plane of the horse's skull is not a completely flat plane. If you go to Google and search for images of horses, you will notice that there are 'hills and valleys' on a horse's head. If that makes sense.

Aaahh ok, yes I see what you mean now that you mentioned the planes!! You are completely correct, just like a person's face isn't flat either, we have our nose, we have cheeks, we have lips and that all creates different planes in a person's head, depending how their skull is, which can be shown by shadows. Same thing with the horses, you need to understand how their skull creates shapes in their faces and how to translate that trough lines and shadows. 

No need to google search, you've pointed that out very well in the horse's cheeks alone. It was a language barrier from my side. ^^
