What you want to do to dress it up is, get ahold of 3 fancy buttons, a pair of wire clippers to cut the backs (shanks) off the buttons, and 3 straight-back pins to be hot glued onto the backs of the buttons. These will hold up the 3 sides to form a tricorn. If you want to dress it up further, you can hot glue some fancy trim along the underside edge, just as shown in the first link, and you can add a hand of trim for a hat band, and stuff one of the sides with feathers.
I have people asking me about my hats all the time, and they're rather amazed to find out how cheap they are to make
