Would you call The Super Speedy Cider Squeezy 6000 a stupid contest? Β Here is some evidence for that point.
The Flim Flam Brothers not giving the Apples a fair deal.
Granny Smith putting the Apples in a competition with nothing to gain and everything to lose.
Flim and Flam letting The Apples get help from additional ponies.
The Apples not getting said help from the outset.
Flim and Flam turning off quality control even though they probably knew it would probably result in low quality cider.

it does sound like a stupid contest....but I think Flim Flam should be thanked because of it..... every year the apples family said that they would make cider but they always run out.... if it hadn't been for flim flam showing up...they wouldn't be trying to make the supplies as hard as they did. ...which the lack of which led to the stupid contest in the first place.
and dont you think there would have been room to ...compromise ?

I'm so glad I'm not the only person who thinks that! I think they should have suggested a better deal to Flim and Flam before flat out declining their offer. I think both sides' businesses would erupt with sales if they had a partnership.

I think everyone forgotten if it hadn't been for flim and Flam showing up on the first episode...the Apple family wouldn't have pushed so hard to make production against them to make more cider....classic production is fine, but it won't outrun the upgrade progress if there is no assistance.

I agree. And sometimes I think the Apples are a little too fixed on traditions. I mean, someone turns up with a WAY faster way of making cider just as good as, if not better than the cider they make, why carry on with the tradition instead of fixing all their problems?

because sometimes...classic and traditions are better...but yes I do agree. It doesn't mean it can't grow either. its like the old saying, "if its not broke, don't fix it."

I do get that traditions are very important to the Apples, nd that it is often the best thing to stick to them, but the cider shortage was an enormous problem that had been going on for years, and I do think they should have tried harder to cut a deal with Flim and Flam, and make cider for everypony, instead of sticking to their old ways and the shortage still being a problem. I mean, making a larger amount of "grade-A, top-notch, five-star, blow-your-horseshoes-off, one-of-a-kind" cider is a win-win.

good point....and it seems with every flim flam ep, except the school ep...that the mane six learn a lesson....like in leap of faith...Granny smith thought she was too old to enjoy things...but with a little bit of boasting, she was given a spirit she thought was lost. and that you are only as old as you feel and not be scared to try new things....viva Las Pegasus, learning to work together despite how someone has made an impact on your life in a negative way, can be rewarding into looking into the big picture of finding a solution.

Definitely. Flim and Flam's three early episodes were not only jaw-droppingly amazing, but also had some really wholesome morals. Friendship University was an out-of-place, character-abusive blatant filler episode with no moral or character development. I mean, out of all the antagonists in the show they could have chosen to open a rival Friendship School, they had to pick Flim and Flam, the two antagonists who have no involvement with the friendship plot at all. They're not supervillains who battle the magic of friendship, and they're not antagonists who create friendship problems. They're just con artists. No relation to the friendship plot whatsoever. In fact, I don't think it was right for them to remain antagonists at all.
I'm working on a fanfic called Glad You Like It, where Flim and Flam work with Applejack and Fluttershy to find out where a bunch of phony newspaper articles claiming their resort is full of scams, are coming from, and the culprit turns out to be Gladmane, who hoped to frame Flim and Flam for crime and take back his resort. Not to brag, but I think that would make a much better FlimFlam episode for Season 8 than Friendship University.
