There is a new update for Rainmeter out... the fix is broken again...

The above fix did work, but only for 6 hours. After the problem is back, nothing works.

It works perfectly for me - Many Thanks Mordasius. No errors and it's back to it's perfect state again for me.

I did alot of work over the past few days with many permutations (and all had limited success and was intermittent), but ultimately your fix is the best.

Hi,

The skin has not been working for a few days now. I ran the skin with debug mode on the Webparser Measure and it gives this out. Below is not the full text but some snippets from the file WebParserDump:

Terms of Service Violation

Your usage has been flagged as a violation of our terms of service .

If you believe this to be in error, please confirm below that you are not a robot by clicking "I'm not a robot"
       below.

I think the website is preventing the webparser.dll from interpreting and extracting the results

However, now it would be handier to have this skin with cryptocurrencies, too.

There are quite a few Rainmeter skins that monitor cryptocurrency and are in the Rainmeter Gallaries: www.deviantart.com/rainmeter/g…

flaotnm [2018-06-30 19:57:47 +0000 UTC]

The skin now gives the following error in Rainmeter's Log:

Error | CurrencyMarkets\6quotes - Smaill.ini - [InfoIndex5]  | WebParser: (Fetch error) A connection with the server could not be established (ErrorCode=12029).

It used to be fine until a few days ago.

All my currency pairs are working as expected.  What value do you have for CurrencyPair5= in CurrencyPairs.inc?   Whatever you have there seems likely to be causing the error.

Looks like it was one of the all too frequent temporary blips because the skin on my desktop is working as expected.

Thanks for your reply. The skin on my computer stopped working for a few days. I have tried to uninstall and reinstall the skin but it did not work. I thought maybe my IP was banned from retrieving data from bloomberg.com.

If you have played around with the value of UpdateQuotes (default=1800) then it is quite possible that you have had your IP blocked.  Not sure how long it stays blocked for.

Love the collapsible format on both this Bloomberg and the Market Quotes version.

With just a modicum of editing, they fit in nicely with Rabra's Yosemite bar too.

Kudos and many thanks.

hi, firstly, big thanks for your skin
but i want to use site www.tradingeconomics.com/curre… to get data
will you help me? I can't code

thank you much,

Mordasius In reply to evolt7 [2017-03-17 11:54:00 +0000 UTC]

It wouldn't be too difficult but it's not a project I have time for at the moment.  Not least of all because the site seems to be very USD orientated for example we can easily get the USD per GBP rate but would have to reverse it to get the GBP per USD rate.  This is not always the same thing on other sites and even the USD per GBP varies depending on where you get it from on the site you mentioned.  I may get around to looking at it over the Easter break but I can't promise anything - sorry.

the skin works perfectly
except when i modified CurrencyPairs.inc entry with NZD (New Zealand Dollars). i tried converting on bloomberg page. it seems there are more than one currencies with the NZD country code.
do you know if there are anyway around it
thx

Mordasius In reply to argivian [2017-01-05 07:20:08 +0000 UTC]

I just tried AUDNZD,  NZDUSD,  EURNZD and NZDGBP without any problems.   Only New Zealand has the currency code NZD under ISO 4217 Currency Codes.  Just remember that AUDNZD shows NZD per AUD not vice versa.

Hi, great skin! Looks good with my other meters.

Question: is it possible to use less than 6 (or 5) quotes? I only care about 3 important ones and don't want to have extra ones. Right now if I comment them out in CurrencyPairs.inc it shows #PairName4 # and so on. Can't find a way to just remove them in config. Advice?

vavaxman In reply to vavaxman [2016-10-08 19:22:50 +0000 UTC]

I put a bit of effort into a minimalistic config of this skin, and perhaps somebody might be interested! Here's how it looks like, white on transparent: i.imgur.com/Hlj0BKF.png (the stars are part of my wallpaper) and here's the script you can just paste into one of the config files: pastebin.com/9TxUQ7nk
Enjoy!

vavaxman In reply to vavaxman [2016-10-08 19:14:28 +0000 UTC]

I was able to hide the 2 extra lines by commenting out everything related to Index 4 and 5 in the 5quotes.ini, but I wish there was an easier way to mod that. Maybe for a future update?

Mordasius In reply to vavaxman [2017-01-05 07:37:27 +0000 UTC]

Sorry for the belated reply.  I missed your original comment back in October.  Your solution of commenting out all the meters referring to Index4 or Index5 is the quickest and easiest method.  It would be possible to show or hide meters depending on whether or not a currency pair has been entered in CurrencyPairs.inc but that would be more work and of limited values unless you were going to change the currencies being shown on a regular basis.

When I right click and click edit currency pairs (same thing with the other skins), nothing happens. Am I missing something? Thanks for your help!

Mordasius In reply to wjmattin [2016-08-02 04:03:00 +0000 UTC]

Right-clicking on the skins and selecting [Edit Currency Pairs] should open ..\Documents\Rainmeter\Skins\CurrencyMarkets\resources \CurrencyPairs.inc.  That is where you setup the currency pairs you wish to list.  After editing and saving the file you need to refresh the skin by right-clicking and selecting [Refresh Skin].   If selecting [Edit Currency Pairs] fails to open CurrencyPairs.inc, I suggest you re-install the skin from the .rmskin file.

Please note that all the red numbers and arrows showing at the moment are a result of the BREXIT vote rather than a skin malfunction.

Hi, how to make skin receive data fron bloom CO1:COM (www.bloomberg.com/quote/CO1:CO… )
PairName5=Brent
CurrencyPair5=CO1:COM (?)

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Mordasius In reply to stKisho [2016-01-22 10:34:37 +0000 UTC]

This skin is for currency. You need to use the Market Prices - Bloomberg skin and set one of the indexes to www.bloomberg.com/quote/CO1:CO… (right click on the skin -> Edit stocks/labels).

If your version of the Currency Markets is not showing the prices it is because Bloomberg changed the page layout to improve the display on mobile devices.

Please download the latest version to resume normal service.

You're welcome.  Bloomberg changed the page layout to look better on small-screen mobile devices.  I think it's an improvement even on larger screens.

How do you know that IP is banned. This morning, suddenly the skin has not data. I tried the Bloomberg.com and quote is fine. What could go wrong? Thanks

Mordasius In reply to zb288 [2015-06-03 14:45:56 +0000 UTC]

I don't think you've been banned.  I have the same problem because Bloomberg have changed the currency pages.   Thanks for reporting.
Fixed - please download the updated version above

Leaving this running refreshing every 30mins for 24 hours got me IP banned from pulling specific pages from Bloomberg. (and it's really specific ones) Maybe set it to every hour. Perhaps you can write an alternate version based on Google Finance without using maxthegold's expressions to retain CC-BY-NC-SA status (The Share Alike being the most important part. Maxthegold updated to "No Derivative Works.")

Google Finance doesn't seem to have the problem with banning IPs. It's Google, they're used to frequent requests.

Edit: Turns out Google Finance also has It does not have mIndex4_UpDown, but tweaking the Calc to work with negative values from mIndex_Change worked out. Yes, Google was smart enough to make the values for change negative.

Mordasius In reply to jack-y-zhang [2015-05-02 12:58:06 +0000 UTC]

This is NOT normal behavior.  I have run this with the default 30 minute setting for days/weeks on end without any problems.  Are you sure you didn't change the value of UpdateQuotes?  Don't forget you will cause exactly this sort of problem if you are testing a skin and keep refreshing it to see if your changes are working.

Please check your notes for tips on how to test skins and particularly the RegExp without having to constantly hit the site and risk getting your IP blocked.

jack-y-zhang In reply to Mordasius [2015-05-02 18:36:04 +0000 UTC]

You're probably right, was doing excessive testing on a re-skin. It's odd that they wait 24 hours before implementing the ban. I'm an amateur code porter/remixer, I have no clue how to simulate stuff for testing.

An API pull would be much better than using WebParser, even my friend says WebParser is a poor scraper, but using Bloomberg's API involves writing a C# plugin.

I haven't had problems on Google Finance, and I did a lot of testing on a previous iteration of a re-skin with Google.

How often do the currencies update/refresh?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Mordasius In reply to themastersb [2015-03-14 03:17:58 +0000 UTC]

The default is for the currencies to update every 30 minutes.  You can change the update rate by editing the variable UpdateQuotes in the [variables] section of the .ini file.  Setting UpdateQuotes=300 will update the quotes every 300/60 = 5 minutes.  I wouldn't set it much lower than this as you will run the very real risk of getting your IP blocked for hitting the Bloomberg site too frequently.
