Description
in a fit of madness I tried my hand again at digital painting. I think it went ok... I don't think I'm suited to portraiture though XD It's more of a speedpaint than a refined painting.Reference by ~liam-stock

Hmmm, I actually prefer the unfinished look more. Sometimes refined digital works end up looking plastic (*is guilty of this*) and creating a rougher look gives it more intensity and passion. I think it's really a quite decent job

it's parially why I'm actually fonder of traditional painting, but once anything, digital or traditional, gets to an over rendored photorealistic stage it's like "why did you not just take a photo in the first place, it would look better"
The skill involved is immence, but in the overworking to create the smoothness some of the, like you said, passion and intensity is lost. The original concept for the piece gets lost amoungs technical skill.

yeah. but at the same time, I think that for me I need to learn how to actually GET that technical so that I know exactly what I'm doing so when I really want to do a nice painting, I can do it right and not have to worry too much about the technical stuff because i'll have it down really well. And then I can concentrate on making it more passionate and less technical, because I won't be fussing about my skill at that point

thanks. I picked a less interesting stock so I wouldn't be caught up in all the little details not that I didn't love the stock too...

That's really good, I couldn't paint (in any format) to save my life.

Hey that's really good for a speedie ^^ I really like the hair and the brush strokes in the skin tones. I would suggest keeping the outline of her eyes a little lighter as they stand out a bit too much right now I think. Anyway good work and keep it up
