Description
First things first: this is not my design. This is my first redraw of an adopt, link is at the bottom to the original. I decided that it would be great design for my version of the Wila. In future incarnations I'll probably make the clothing a bit more diaphanous and perhaps do more tweaking but when I first draw an adopt I try to stay as close to the original design as I can.

Wilis are ghosts that possess the spirits of young, beautiful women that died unexpectedly (through any means) and felt robbed of a happy, eventful life and thus linger on to torment the living. Their preferred victims are men and the friends and lovers they left behind. The demon itself is created when a woman of demonic descent dies while young, as a manifestation of her desire to continue living. Because of this, they can exhibit qualities of various demonesses depending on the ancestry they had in life.

These ghosts have varying temperaments, but all are bad news for the people they come across. They delight in seducing and manipulating mortals to death. Initially a wila might be mistaken for a fun loving, beautiful woman, as they are all smiles and laughter at first. However, as soon as their victim feels secure in their company they will lure them somewhere to end their life in various ways. Some wilis can drain the essence of their victim, others call up powerful winds to batter them around or throw them off cliffs. Others enslave mortals to cause mayhem, and a few even prefer to drown their victim. This versatility of demise makes it hard to identify a wila as the culprit when bodies start to appear, but there is always a common theme--reports of a beautiful, otherworldly woman being spotted in the area that disappears without a trace.

Wilis are capable combatants and as ghosts are hard to hurt, but they do have a few weaknesses. Knowledge of the spirit possessed by the wila (such as that known by friends, family, or lovers) can be used to slow or chastise the creature. The hair or skin of the person whose spirit they possess can be used to control them, as can the burial clothes, and this control is permanent as long as the item remains intact and in the controller's possession; control ceases immediately if the item is burned. Exorcism is performed similarly--it requires burning the corpse and everything she was buried with to ash. This can be problematic if their host's body has long been dead, making ancient wila particularly troublesome.

All wilis can shapeshift into an exceptionally beautiful form of an animal they loved in life, but they are not able to alter their human appearance. As ghosts, they can possess physical bodies temporarily and move objects without touching them. Most also have some form of mild clairvoyance; all of them know instantly when they meet someone who is fated to become a wila as well. They tend to linger around such women, as if trying to warn them of their fates.
