Description Here's a flag map from my own personal alternate history project that I like to call Late World War. The main crux of the story is that after a failed assassination attempt against the Archduke Franz Ferdinand in 1914 (yes, I know it's a cliché point of divergence), the alliance system in Europe undergoes a massive shift in the latter part of the 1910's which ultimately leads to a situation which sees an alliance of Germany and Britain fighting off against the 'Double Entente' (France, Russia, and their Slavic allies) in this timeline's version of World War One (that begins in 1920). Ultimately, Russia and France are beaten by the Anglo-German alliance, however another world conflict soon breaks out in 1948 after the 'Compact Powers' (an alliance of Hungary, France, Russia and Serbia; later joined by Mexico and China) begin to struggle for 'their' territories that had been lost in previous years. Again, the Franco-Russian-led alliance looses this Second World War (albeit only after eight years of brutal fighting however), and the world ultimately evolves into this multi-polar situation that you see in the map above; the year being 2000.

The current superpowers in this timeline are the United States (though only in Latin America), the United Kingdom (which maintains a much stronger Commonwealth of Nations), Germany (the Earth's leading scientific power), China (which came out of the loss in WW2 to become the world's leading power in exports/industrial strength), the Ottoman Empire (a spiritual powerhouse, as well as the 'world's oil baron') and Brazil (which vies for control over Latin America against the USA and Africa with Britain/Germany).

Other major nations include a united India (which holds the worlds largest population), Argentina (an exporter in both chemical and agricultural products, as well as a staunch opponent to Brazil), Iran (the long term friend-and-enemy of the Turks) and Japan (which has come out of the collapse of their empire as the world's first major nuclear-armed 'communist' state).
