Description This is the third piece in my series of self-portraits portraying the strange things that people assume about me. Shot in large-format, this image investigates the odd assumption some old coworkers of mine had that I am religious about recycling, simply because I continued to do so day after day. (gasp!) I find the notion rather humorous.
slightly technical stuff….
The gold tone of this picture is due to several factors: a) I am painted metallic gold, b) the background is dusted gold also, and c) I purposefully shot using tungsten lights without tungsten film. (took both versions, actually, and chose this one.)
The effect on the original print (which is 24x30”) is rather impressive, especially with the wax tears and green contacts. The colour is meant to seem surreal, and I attempted to achieve an androgynously-disturbing-angel look, true to early Christian iconic art.
Alas, I feel that it has lost some of it’s original effect onscreen- still, I hope you enjoy it. ^_~

Remember guys— Reduce, Re-use, Recycle, Hail Mary!, Rinse, Repeat.

P.S. FULL VIEW PLEASE! It makes SUCH a difference! It looks awful all tiny >_< Thanks to anyone who bothers!!

That's great conceptual work, very nice job!
The skin tone and wax? drops are perfect.
It would be interesting to see it with more contrast.

Ah! i love it! Looks great. ^^ Yaaay recycling!
Hmm. You look disturbingly artificial, and i'm not sure, but i think the crushed cans add to that... @w@
LoL... plate halo...

the wax is awesome! although, i will say a couple of things. the hands seem a bit too light in contrast to the body and face. but this also makes them stand out more, which was good planning. the shadow of the hair on the neck seems a little odd to me as well, and the two eyes are actually different shades of green. excellent use of balance and rhythm. this is really a successful piece.

i love to recycle! haha. awesome idea. just curious about how in the world you got those wax tears on your skin to stick so well... i would think painful burning would be involved.

Cool! I think u got the feeling u were looking for just right! The only problem is that everything is the same yelowish-golden colour...Thus it loses a bit of its depth....Perhaps some b&c enhancement on the foreground, or a bit of desaturation on the background could help bring things in their rightful place. Other than that, it's great! I love it!! Hope comments help?

Very good job with the Early Christian concept if I were looking from across a gallery I might mistake it has a remake of an old Iconoclastic design

It needs a little more damnation and fear tactics to capture the true Iconoclastic experience though. *LOL*
But Still very good job O O I love the plate that you used for the holy aura // ? did you have it or find some where ?

The nostrils are so big on this, which is why I was interested. It doesn't look like the teeny tiny noses that people tend to draw.

I actually think that if you put the woman out of focus and the cans in focus, it would look more interesting.

It is obvious that so much thought and effort went into this image. I commend any artist that takes so much time and care to create something that is so striking. Your message is very humourous, but can also be conveyed as powerful too. I can see how a viewer could take this to be commentary on religion or capitalism, or any number of other things. Beautifully done work. You well deserved the Daily Deviation.

Brilliant job of portraying the concept; the gold tone gives the entire piece a 'holy' appeal. The cans in the background are set up brilliantly, while you praying in front of them makes the photo absurd (in a good way).

In the name of the father, of the son and of the holy ghost.
Hail Mary, I thank you for you precious metal.
I am gracious for your wood.
I shall Reduce, Re-use and Recycle.
Forgive me today for I threw away a plastic spoon after a kebab.
Amen.

You made me laugh.

Our father who art in thy corporation
Hallowed be thy Income
Thy kingdom come
Thy will be done
To those with no sight of heaven
Give us this day
No daily bread
And make good on your tresspasses
As we have little knowledge of those tresspassing against us
And deliver us our temptation
So that we may in turn grow evil.
