Description

    Shisui had been living in the forestry of Norden for a while, roaming between the trees silently for decades. Every year he would encounter the entrance of the alluring cave, something that when he was younger would entice him but he'd never dare set foot in the cave. He could sense the otherworldliness from it every time he would pass it. This year was no different, and the kitsoo of death, night, and smoke lingered around the entrance of the cave. He knew that one fooling would make the mistake of entering it, and sure enough, a couple did. One of them did get injured, and Shisui flew in to assist them out of the cave safely, but the rest seemed fine and dandy, elated to take a leap of faith and adventure in the spirit of Halloween. He could only watch from afar, waiting to see if they'd return out safely.
    Shisui's loving companion, Keir, purred in confusion, looking down to his partner. Shisui sighed as he sat down, allowing himself to solidify now that there were no wandering eyes.
    "You know I don't enjoy new things..." He mumbled in his soft yet deep voice in his usual timid manner. "The cave's gems and mystery isn't worth it... I'd much rather help the wandering soul drawn to it." He explained, reaching out his wing so Keir could jump from the branch he was perched upon onto his wing, bringing the small puffy creature to his shoulder.
    "I know you'd like for me to make new friends and reach out... but there's no point. I always get forgotten so why not just hide in the shadows and help when I can?"
    Keir let out a protesting squeak, and nipped his wing, making Shisui wince but giggle, a soft noise that matched his even gentler personality. "Maybe one day." He whispered. "But for now I'm content with just your company, Keirry." He smiled gingerly, moving his head to nudge the other's chest with an affectionate grin.
Soon enough, Shisui heard the ramblings of the pair from before, and almost instantly Shisui emersed himself in smoke until he was nothing more than a pair of observant golden optics observing underneath the undulating veil of mist he conjured. He was too far away to hear anything they spoke about, but he could hear pleasant laughter. Shisui let out a soft sigh, slightly envious of the affectionate display of a platonic relationship, but was taken aback when he witnessed the rather large and clunky fooling… sit on the other, nearly wincing as he watched. “See Keir?” He whispered. “That’s why I don’t need friends, they’ll just crush you underneath their large rump.”
    Keir shot a questioning look to Shisui, but bit back any more squeaks of a protest when he saw the loneliness in his friend’s eyes, and the soft frown on his maw. The birbat let out a saddened prr, and sidestepped closer to Shisui’s neck, nestling against him as if to silently reassure him. Shisui hummed in soft delight, and leaned slightly against Keir. “Thank you.” He whispered with a ginger grin.
