Description

Étoile had been away from civilization for such a long time that the cold marble stone pressing against his pads felt almost foreign compared the beads of scorching hot sand that he had been traveling upon for nearly a year. If he had not heard of the Medieval Festival upon the whisperings from the Foolings of Suden while he and Sasori stopped to stock up on some supplies, the pair would still be wandering the endless dunes, stargazing and adventuring with only the two of them.

The astrologist couldn't help but feel giddy as he dragged a begrudging Sasori into the ballroom, the large elegant setting was filled with chatter and soft music that appealed to his large ears. Étoile's golden eyes sparkled along with the dancing lights of the champagne chandelier, and his tail flickered along with the rhythm of the stringed instruments. He turned back to Sasori, who bore his typical downturned frown as his own emerald eyes looked over the room in introverted distaste.

"Thank you for coming with me." Étoile whispered into Sas's ear with a soft smile, his eyes genuinely filled with appreciation. Sasori's steeled gaze slid over to the taller faux-kitsoo, and he was quick to turn away when he saw that idiotic expression of gratitude and his cheeks heated up from the soft smile he'd seen so many times before.

"It's not like I had much of a choice." He grumbled to himself, only making Étoile chuckle softly.

"Don't be so grumpy. This is an elegant party! Sure there's a crowd but the music is soft and the dancing is mellow." Étoile tried to reassure his partner. "And speaking of dancing-"

Étoile hummed in slight devious curiosity, nudging Sasori closer to the center of the dance floor, where pairs of Foolings were already gathered, trotting alongside each other or encircling their partners in a courteous display of affection or attraction. Sasori resisted, pressing against the blue and yellow fur of the taller male.

"Absolutely not." He practically hissed, moving quickly away from Étoile to return to hugging the outer edges of the wall, where those who wished to avoid the dancing spectacle chose to stand and chatter.

The taller's brows furrowed in concern as he trailed after Sasori, returning to his side.

"Why not? It's extremely fun, I promise."

"..." Sasori remained silent, continuing to walk along the edge of the room to reach the arrangement of food.

"Sasori..." Étoile whimpered, causing the pale Kitsoo to stop his exhibition towards the food to look back to his partner, and he couldn't help but feel his heartstrings be pulled on at the disappointment in those deep pools of swirling gold, which he had found to resemble the light of the stars at night.

"... It's because I don't know how to dance, alright?"

Étoile's ears lifted slightly, and he smiled fondly. "That's it?"

"Yes."

And without another second to waste, Étoile was leading Sasori to the dance floor.

"Wha- Étoile what the-"

Before he could finish, Étoile turned around, and their muzzles were close to one another, and suddenly he was at a loss for words.

"I can teach you." The taller whispered gently, leading Sasori into the rhythm of the song with carefully placed steps as he began to lead Sas into a simple dance.

Sasori, at first, had trouble keeping up, his inexperienced paws tripping over themselves as he attempted to copy Étoile's seemingly, easily elegant steps. He even tried to give up and slink away into the crowd to get lost, but the soft extrovert wouldn't allow him, and after some focus, he began to match his partner's moves.

The paler individual smiled at his small accomplishment, and when Étoile caught sight of such a grin, he was quick to lean over to peck those soft lips and returned to dancing with a happy vigor as if nothing happened.

Sasori, however, stumbled at the fast public display of affection, and his cheeks turned bright red. He couldn't be mad at Étoile even if he tried, however, for the smile and joy written all over his face made his heart melt, and he could only grin subtly and rejoin his side.

“You’re such an idiot.”

“I’m your idiot.”
