Funnily enough this was taken with an old point
and shoot snapshot camera from sony... It wasn't
even a d-slr... But I worked with what I had at
the time

Also, the ant was a lot bigger than you would think...
(It was the biggest ant I've ever seen) Haha.

Thanks a lot.

I know... I find it a bit ironic that my
best(Well, I think it's my best) shot was
taken with a point and shoot... Oh well,
just goes to show it's not the tools that matter

And you're very welcome...

Very true, I am often baffled at people who are new to photography and spend maaaany hundreds expecting it to give them a quick head start. Thinking about it though, I must admit I would have had the same mindset if I hadn't got some good advice early on. I guess it's an easy trap to fall into, and usually ends up in frustration

Well, there are a lot of things only a
dslr can do... But they're pretty much lost
on beginners. It scares me sometimes
how much money people are willing to throw
away on a camera that they'll only use occasionally.

Do you edit these?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

mossyfrog In reply to Theevilchiquite [2013-05-16 15:32:19 +0000 UTC]

Nah. I don't edit my shots aside from cropping and
the occasional conversion to black and white. I
don't have anything against editing, I just want
to perfect my abilities as a photographer before
I move to editing.

mossyfrog In reply to thefluffyhandgrenade [2012-12-16 17:36:42 +0000 UTC]

I mean, I could understand being afraid of them if they were say 6 inches tall and had a direct hunger for human flesh XD But as they are now they're just extremely helpful and misunderstood creatures.

DeadSkarlett [2012-12-14 12:50:50 +0000 UTC]

I thought the average macro was 4mm not 5mm >_< still an amazing shot

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

mossyfrog In reply to DeadSkarlett [2012-12-14 15:58:09 +0000 UTC]

Hmm, Well the 5mm on the data is describing the focal
length of the lens, so I'm not really sure what you mean.
>.< But I'll try and explain it anyway.

This photo was taken quite a while back, before I got my
DSLR. As such, my camera at the time did not have "true"
macro capabilities. It could not produce the minimum
ratio that defines technical macro, which is a 1:1 Sensor
to life size. In other words, to be a "true" macro shot
the subject has to appear on the sensor at least as big
as it does in real life. So this shot would better be
described as "in the style of macro"... Basically it
represents my attempts during those early days to get a
good macro shot, without being able to produce a "true"
macro shot. Does that make any sense? XD Sorry if it was
confusing.

But anyways; Thank you very much
