Description
I saw *blueeyedmagickman 's Idiot Proof Tutorial [link] and thought I might try my own.If this was helpful to you, let me know! It took time to get all the screenshots and such, so I don't know if I'll do another unless people tell me they liked it. I created a [forum] that's devoted to GIMP tutorials, so please, let me know if you liked this!

I'm sorry, I thought I had that in there somewhere. I know that's certainly how I do it. Thanks for commenting, I'll check it out, see if I can update it.

Do you know whether this works for the the new updates on GIMP? Because I can't find any folders called 'Brushes' or 'Scripts' in the Package Content?

Yup. The brushes file in the GIMP app has individual brushes as well as folders of brushes... you want to drag the individual brushes (because there's an extra step for folders).

I found out everything just that my computer wouldn't let me put new brushes into the folder.

It doesn't show the gimp icon although gimp works perfectly fine. Do you know what that could be?

OMG! <3! I don't mean to sound so... desperate, I guess, but this really did help! It was the only tutorial that came up when I asked about finding a tutorial for Macs.
Thank you so much!

I'm glad I could help. Let me know if you're having trouble with any other features of GIMP - I'm no expert, but I've played around with it for awhile.

I'm just having issues with GIMP remembering how I set up the tools and windows... I have to redo everything every time I open the application. But I always thought that was just how things worked...?

The preferences pane has settings for those. I'm using GIMP 2.6.5 at the moment, so the steps to do it for me are as follows...
Open the preferences window: Edit > Preferences.
Select Tool Options: left list of choices, fifth one down.
Available check box for "Save tool options on exit" and buttons to save or reset now.
Select Window Management: left list of choices, second to last (not including all the Folders).
Available check box for "Save window positions on exit" and buttons to save or reset.
If these are all set appropriately and GIMP still isn't saving them, I don't know what to tell you. Upgrading to the latest version has usually fixed most of my problems with software bugs.
Hope that helps!

hmmm... I'll try that out. I'm currently using GIMP, so I can't quit it right now. But hopefully that works
Thank you so much!!

Let me know if you're stuck with anything else... I was planning to make more tutorials, but I'm just so busy I'm not sure that'll happen for awhile. But I can certainly help!

I press refresh but my gimp refuse to update. It doesn't want to refresh and keep thinking that the brushes folder are the olds one. Do you know what I can do ? I have version 2. 6. 2

MotleyDreams In reply to Khumo [2008-11-13 17:51:41 +0000 UTC]
I'm not quite sure where you put the brushes... if you put them in the old folder, then try scrolling through the brushes that are loading. You'll still have all the old brushes, there will just be new brushes there also.
If you didn't put the brushes in the original folder, then did you follow the rest of the steps in the tutorial? You need to restart GIMP after adding folders in the Preferences window.
Sorry I can't be more specific, but I don't know quite how far you got. If you tell me more, I may be able to help.

Sorry I found my own answer to my problem. Gimp was stupid and was taking the brushes in another folder.

Hey, I'm glad you like it, thanks for the ! If you have other questions about GIMP, please come ask, I'm happy to try and help (I can only promise the TRY part). I've been playing with GIMP for at least three years now, but I've only gotten into depth in the past few months. (Worst case, I don't know, and we both learn something new.
)
I made a [forum] for tutorial-related stuff, feel free to check it out, and you'll probably be the first person to reply. I'll be happy to try and make any tutorials I am able.
