thanks very much!

Let's see...I cut the arm with a small hack saw, and I carved out the arm, chest, and face partially with a dremmel, and partially by hand with a curved xacto blade.
The dremmel bits I used were the small sanding cylinders, a tiny slightly cone-shaped sanding bit, and some small diamond headed ceramic bits to carve out multiple layers inside the chest cavity to make it look like layers of "skin" and metal stripped away.

I made the new hooking point inside the amputated arm by drilling tiny holes through it and inserting a heavy duty pin cut to the proper size and permanently affixed with epoxy glue. The smaller details were sculpted using Aves Apoxie Sculpt sculpting compound, including the "twisted metal" ends. I used assorted plastic bits cut off broken toys for the machinery sticking out of the severed arm.

The rust is partially a paper texture medium, and partially a modeling texture medium, thoroughly varnished, and then blushed/painted by hand in several layers, finished with a very, very light dry brushing of metallic antique gold paint. Barely visible, but really makes it pop.

The other bits inside the chest and detailing the rest of the mods are a mixture of watch parts, the larger gears are music box parts, and some of the medium sized non-gear pieces that aren't sculpted are jewelry findings--mostly metal end pieces and spacers.

Oh yes, and since the elbow, wrist, and knee balls are painted silver, I coated ovr the painted parts with a 7 minute epoxy glue brushed on very thin, and a super heavy duty gloss varnish to help minimize wear and tear on the paint where the joints rub together over time.

I *think* that's everything. Good luck with your project!!

Did setting the gears deeper into the body like that effect the stringing at all? :>

Looks awesome <3 <3 Always so impressive!!!

Nope. Doesn't affect stringing in any way. I do kind of cap off the back of the gears with some sculpting compound on the inside of the torso, but that's mostly to keep the jagged edges of the gears from fraying the elastic.

Well...If I remember correctly, about a month of planning and pondering the logistics of it, and then about a week's worth of work start-to-finish, including dry-times for all the different layers.
