Description Those of you my age (or older), or who were at least lucky enough to see the show in later years, might remember Beany and Cecil or its earlier version, Time For Beany---both by the late, great Looney Tunes artist, Bob Clampett.

Beany and Cecil was on TV a lot during the early Sixties, and besides my obsession with Underdog I had a lot of cartoon loves...and Beany was one of them. I was about two or three years old when this picture was taken, and I got a talking Beany Boy doll for Christmas. Surprisingly, I remember very little about that except for the pictures, but obviously I was thrilled to see my little "boyfriend".

Some years later, we gave Beany away or sold him---to this day, I don't know why. But back in 1996 I saw a Beany Boy doll at an antiques store, priced at $250!!! As I reflected on the loss of my own Beany Boy, I thought:
"Man, my parents were dumb. " Just imagine the money I'd have made if I still had ALL my old toys from my childhood years---I was pretty dumb myself.

Awwww, you're so little Beany and Cecil and Underdog are way before my time, but it looks like you liked them!

Yep, I loved them. I think I actually loved Underdog more, but I don't remember any toys about him. I'd have really gone nuts if I had an Underdog plushy!

Aww, I remember Beany and Cecil! Though, I wasn't in the 60's (born in the 80's ), but at least I remember that show. It was cute and Bob Clampett was my third favorite "Looney Tunes" artist next to Friz Freeling and Chuck Jones. That was an adorable picture! ^.^

Man, I was surprised that your first love was Beany as well as Underdog!

Awww, thank you!

I'm surprised myself...though I had a LOT of cartoon loves then (and now ). I enjoyed most of the superhero cartoons, but I also loved a lot of Disney characters. I was especially crazy about Goofy back then.

You're very welcome, !

Me too! In fact, I loved alot of Disney characters too. Though, Jaq, from Cinderella, was my favorite when I was little.

Haha, I can't believe you have a crush on Goofy! Now that's surprising.

I used to...I still like him, but now my crushes have gone elsewhere. But there were some that I always loved, like Jose Carioca and Panchito. I think I had always liked Scrooge and Ludwig, but I didn't come to properly appreciate them until recently.

Aww.. that's so cute! ^^ But also sad that your doll was given away or sold.. not only for the money, also for the memories.

I never heard about that show though, but I'm not surprised. I checked on Google for them and didn't recognize them. Although, they look like an old version of "Pete's Dragon".

If memory serves me right, we needed the money pretty badly though. And to be fair, I wasn't playing with the little guy so much by then. But I gave away an awful lot of my old toys in later years, and I'm wishing now I'd had the sense to keep them.

There are some old "Beany and Cecil" cartoons on YouTube. It's a very old show, even funny.

Glad you like the piccy, thanks! If I had me a Gyro doll, I'd be kissing him right now!

Oh. Well, if it's about that then I guess you had no other choice. Giving away toys is a part of growing up, when we think we don't need them anymore. Which reminds me of one of my favorite dino toys (a yellow <7i>Dimetrodon) which I either sold or threw away. I shouldn't have done that, I kinda miss it already.

Again, I'm not surprised. YouTube is pretty full of goods.

You're welcome! ^^ I would too!

Yep. Goods and bads.

Anna-McNarin [2008-08-01 08:10:09 +0000 UTC]

It does pay to keep old toys sometimes. My older brother decided he wanted to throw away the Star Wars toys he had once and I, being a bit more sensible, asked if I could have them instead. He said yes. He kicked himself years later when he realized if he hadn't have given them to me, he could have made money off them. I plan on selling them myself some day, but it doesn't seem prudent to do it when Lucas is still making SW films and toys.

By the way: you are such a cutie!

mouselady In reply to Anna-McNarin [2008-08-06 21:50:49 +0000 UTC]

Yes, but those old Star Wars toys are classics, and people eat those up! Give it a shot, then buy something nice for your brother.

Awww, thank you!

I grew up with both shows. When we had the original and better Cartoon Network, Beany and Cecil were on there for awhile. Here's a clip from YouTube that you might like: [link]
