M has a thing for (different) Canids - I think it stems from her love of Foxes

She was cat-sitting for a cousin in a different city, and made the trip to this zoo to go to see the Jackal pups. Last time we were a bit later to see them at a really young age (also because the zoo doesn't really announce the birth), and M didn't want to miss it again. So, she went all by herself... And had a great time with these guys

Species: Golden Jackal (Goudjakhals)

Latin name: Canis Aureus

Originates from north and northeastern Africa, southeastern and central Europe, Asia Minor, the Middle East and southeast Asia.

Current Status: Least Concern

…The Golden Jackal is a social species, its basic social unit consisting of a breeding pair followed by its offspring.

…Although similar to a small Grey Wolf, the Golden Jackal is distuingished by a lighter tread, a more slender build, sharper muzzle and shorter tail.

…Despite its name, the Golden Jackal is not closely related to the Black-Backed and Side-Striped Jackal, but more so to the Grey Wolf, Coyote and Ethiopian Wolf.

… It is also known as the Common Jackal, Asiatic Jackal or Reed Wolf.
