A boy and a girl, they were born to a melanistic (black) mother. They'd been playing in the hot summer weather nearly all the time that day, so it was a surprise to find them lying in the shade for a bit

Species: Central African Leopard (Afrikaanse Luipaard)

Latin name: Panthera Pardus Pardus/Shortridgei

Originates from Sub-Saharan Africa; in case of the specific Central African Leopard, Sudan and northeastern Democratic Republic of Congo.

Current status: Vulnerable

…The African Leopard can be divided in nine different subspecies, though they might genetically by closely related, and some suggest, might only represent one subspecies.

…They may exhibit great variation in coat color, depending on location and habitat. Coat color varies from pale yellow to deep gold or tawny, and sometimes black, and is patterned with black rosettes while the head, lower limbs and belly are spotted with solid black.

…African Leopards inhabiting the mountains of the Cape Provinces appear physically different from Leopards further north. Their average weight may be only half that of the more northerly Leopard.
