You have no idea how hard it actually is to photograph these chicks. It's not that the parents are *overly* protective (though they don't like you too close) but the chicks actually enjoy being close to the fencing. And they never sit still either. So plenty of opportunity to witness their cuteness, but little opportunity to capture their image for posterity.

Luckily, this one finally gave us the chance we were waiting for (for a whole year, since we didn't manage a good photo last year).

And now, it's especially special because they've left the zoo.

Species: White-Naped Crane (Witnekkraanvogel)

Latin name: Grus Vipio

Originates from the far East.

Current status: Vulnerable
