Where: Texel Zoo Oosterend Texel, The Netherlands

This zoo has some very elusive, relatively rare (in Dutch zoos) animals. These Monkeys share their enclosure with such a rare-in-a-Dutch-zoo animal, the Virginia Opossums. And while these Monkeys are somewhat common in zoos here, they've taken a page from the Opossums' book and don't show themselves easily

You can hear them quite easily, their high-pitched screams are hard to miss. But to spot, that's another story entirely, but sometimes they'll sit in the perfect spot!

Species: Common Marmoset (Gewone of witoorpenseelaapje)

Latin name: Callithrix Jacchus

Originates from the northeastern coast of Brazil.

Current status: Least Concern

…The Common Marmoset is a very small Monkey with a relatively long tail.

…They are thought to have been intentionally and unintentionally released in Southeast Brazil. While the same country, they are considered an invasive species out of fear of genetic pollution of other Marmosets and their predations upon Bird nestlings and eggs.

…Common Marmosets are the most common non-human Primates to be experimented on for medical experiments, more so in Europe than in the USA.
