Where: Dierenpark Zie-ZOO Volkel, The Netherlands

Species: American Black Bear (Amerikaanse zwarte beer)

Latin name: Ursus Americanus

Originates from North America.

Curent status: Least Concern.

Did you know:

…They are highly dexterous, being capable op opening screw-top jars and manipulating door latches.

…Their fur is less shaggy or coarse as that of brown bears.

…American Black Bear skins can be distinguished from those of Asiatic Black Bears, by the lack of a white mark on the chin, and hairier footpads.

…Despite what their name suggests, they’re known or theor color variation, ranging from white, blond, cinnamon, light brown to dark chocolate brown and jet black. It is not unusual for the cinnamon, blond or light brown individuals to be mistaken for a Grizzly.

…American Black Bears typically avoid confronting humans when possible, and wil most likely limit themselves to making mock charges, emitting blowing noises and swatting the ground with their forepaws.

Haven’t seen any cubs yet this year. Have seen one adult, lumbering around the woods. Stayed away of course.
Hope this mess ends soon. Miss being able to walk in the woods, finding who knows, and leaving it for the next person to discover.

Hm, it's hard to tell if that's a good sign or not...

It's a bit hard on nature right now - they're getting used to people not driving as much (at least, here) but at the same time, people take the opportunity to walk around in nature and actually go off the paths and disturb a lot of nesting animals

Very happy to still be allowed to walk in the park and have a lot of Birds around to enjoy

Still, really done with this mess too. 5 weeks behind us, and 1.5 weeks ahead of us. This Tuesday, we'll hear about the next (?) expansion of this so-called intelligent lockdown and see if life can go back to semi-normal.
