Description

When: September 2,  2018

Where: Zoo Antwerpen, Belgium

So this is in no way the best photo ever taken of a Slender Loris - and for the record, we did NOT shine a light - but seeing these animals was just amazing. They sat and posed for us, giving us plenty of time and opportunities to find the right settings to capture them. So the few photos with decent light that we did get, are some very proud moments They are incredibly weird but stunning animals and wherever they are in zoos, they're very high on M's list of seeing.

Species: Gray Slender Loris (Grijze slanke lori)

Latin name: Loris lydekkerianus

Originates from India and Sri Lanka.

Current status: Least Concern

Did you know:

…Gray Slender Lorises are nocturnal and will come out of their roost cavities at dusk.

…Despite many studies on their behavior and ecology, Gray Slender Lorises remain one of the least known primate species.

…Though they are listed as IUCN, they do face serious threats to their survival. They suffer from habitat loss and negative contact with humans. In their home region they’re also used to create traditional medicine, kept as pets or by astrologers to read tarot cards.

It's a Gray Slender Loris They're  really amazing half-monkeys that are nocturnal and occur in Asia. They move in a very weird way, that makes them appear quite primitive. Like Sloths, they can be quite deceptive in how quick they actually can be

Alhough they're listed as least concern, they face quite some threats, such as habitat loss but worst of all, people who haven't a clue how to take care of them illegally keeping them as pets in circumstances that go completely against their nature.
