Where: Safaripark De Beekse Bergen Hilvarenbeek, The Netherlands

These African Lions are sort of famous amongst zoo photographers for sleeping all the time.

Now, I know they're Cats, and they actually do sleep a lot. All is forgiven and understood. Really, it's up to the photographer to be present when they're awake.

Three visits this year, and this is basically as awake as we've seen them. Yawning, so still sleepy,

Species: African Lion (Afrikaanse leeuw)

Latin name: Panthera Leo

Originates from Africa and West Asia.

Current status: Vulnerable

Did you know:

…It is the second-largest living Cat, after the Tiger, but the tallest – at the shoulder – of all living cats.

…Lions are the only members of the Cat family to display obvious sexual dimorphism, meaning that males and females look distinctly different.

…Lions in captivity tend to be larger than Lions in the wild.
