Description

When: October 24, 2020

Where: Apenheul Apeldoorn, The Netherlands

The Crowned Lemurs each in turn used this tree to get from one point to the next. It's quite remarkable to see them maneuver in the same way - the female and her mate, and their their two sons.

This is either Daddy Lemur, or the oldest son, I think.

Species: Crowned Lemur (Kroonmaki)

Latin name: Eulemur Coronatus

Originates from Madagascar.

Current status: Endangered

Did you know:

…Crowned Lemurs are sexually dimorphic; females have a gray body with an orange crown, while males are a dark reddish brown, crowned with black and orange.

…They have long, non-prehensile tails which they use to balance jumping from branch to branch, but also for communication in their close knit, female-led social groups.
