Description
[edit] added more black to make the characters stand out a little better.Inspired, of course, by Alice in Wonderland.
Really, consider the story. You're wandering in the woods, chasing a little white rabbit. And suddenly, you find yourself falling down a hole. You arrive in a foreign world with strange creatures and you're lost and being chased and shrinking and growing and everyone around you is positively mad.
Everything is not bright and wonderful. Seriously people. You are scared out of your freaking mind.
The picture started bright and cute and got darker as I went on. I drew Alice first--and she was very much like our standard vision of her. But as I designed the hatter, he seemed to slowly morph into a demon-like creature. So, I kinda played it up. Never reign in your drawing--always follow it.
So, there ya go! Done on sketchbook paper in ink pens.

I dunno, I think operating under dream logic would dull the fear a bit.
I really like the cross-stitch shading you've got here. And the cat Is that Ches he's adorable.
At first I thought the Hatter was Slenderman and now he terrifies me. <________>

And you may be right--I just know from the book it seemed to be a very scary place. I don't like the cute and happy interpretations of it. :/
Thank you! Yes, he's supposed to be dear Ches. ^^
crap I just realized that... nightmares forever...

I personally took the book to be a satire of various Victorian-era things. If I had to pick one way of seeing it actual story-wise, it would probably be the scarier one. Makes sense. Although I can't see Alice freaking out too much.
Sorry, shouldn't have mentioned it! D|

I never knew that much about the Victorian-era when I had a chance to read the book, so that may be my problem. It has been a while since I picked it up. :/ Well, I can't really see her freaking out too much either. My favorite Alice was Tim Burton's--all this horror and gore and madness and who-knows-what going on around her, and she's just calmly like "okay, right, so this is what we're doing now." Wonderland, though, I don't picture being all that wonderful. If memory serves, the book didn't play it like that.
You're fine! I was aiming for scary!

Exactly! Tim Burton's is a good interpretation, I go with that one.
Wonderland's definitely too surreal for cuteness, no argument there.

Same here! My mom swears it's the worst movie ever--but I love all of Burton's movies. I think it did a great job of being scary and creepy without being depressing.

I completely agree. Although Hatter was a little sad at times, like when he would get confused or something.

I thought his character was played off rather well--kind of a scarred-for-life kind of crazy.

Yeah--I'm thinking the Queen of Hearts taking over hit him pretty hard.
...Unless he was already crazy. Then it was probably something else.

Yeah, I'm sure it was. I noticed his speech got a little stuttered--almost fearful--when he was near her. I'm sure he was an odd character, but those flashbacks lead me to believe this psychotic nature is a recent development.

That's why usually only children take these journeys. Your average adult would be driven mad.

Exactly--that's what I love about it. She's not scared or mad, she just simply accepts it as "Okay, so we're doing this now. Fun."

He's defiantly my favorite part of the picture. Love him. Thanks so much--I don't do it often, so I'm glad it came out halfway decent.
