Description
Don't I _wish_...I knew my major would come in handy some day! I actually didn't design the circuit - I could have done a flashing bulb, but pulsating is still a bit beyond me. I got the schematic from Rabid Hardware . They lied about the cost, though – it was significantly more expensive because I had to special order the dual op amp, and prices have obviously gone up on the other components since the guide was first posted. No matter, though. T'was a good schematic and worked with no problem.
The original plan was to just make a sculpey model with a working bulb, but in a fairly short span of time, that idea spiraled out of control into an accurate wooden model with doors that opened properly and a bulb that began pulsing when the door was shut. I soon came to my senses and realized this was nigh on impossible...primarily because the circuit requires 12 V, which means the TARDIS would have to be quite large to be able to store and easily access 8 AAs through double doors that swing inward. So I settled for a music box-type hinge arrangement (the boxes are just normal wooden trinket boxes bought at my local craftstore) and used a more practical slide switch, which is located at the base of the TARDIS' back side (that's it in the bottom right corner of the bottom left picture). I momentarily considered trying to construct a central panel around the battery pack and integrating a toggle switch onto that, but that would have made it impossible to change the batteries and leave little room for the sculpey characters. Where _is_ that Time Lord Technology (TM) when you need it?
The windows are parchment paper, the paneling was done with Popsicle sticks (roughly 40 per TARDIS), and the signs are just computer printouts. The notice on the front door is actually too small and blurry to read, which is one of my only real complaints about these (the other is that the boxes are significantly taller than Popsicle sticks are long, so I had to piece the paneling together). Has anyone else ever noticed that, though the sign _clearly_ says (even in my low res printouts) to "Pull to open," the TARDIS doors open inward? You _lie_ to us, Doctor! But we love you anyway.
See it in action!

I am so infinitely sorry for taking so long to reply - life has been...persistent lately. It's just over 4" wide/deep, and a little bit less than 6.5" tall, minus the LED on top. I'm glad you like it! ^_^

Wow that totally rules
About the pull to open thing, I thought that meant the cupboard bit with the telephone in which opens outwards as you can see in the empty chilld, im probably wrong but

Thanks muchly! And many apologies for the delay - the end of the semester never really leaves much time for anything but school work...
That is an excellent point about the telephone door... I tend to forget about that bit, since it doesn't get used much - I've seen all there is to see of five of the Doctors and have gotten through a sizeable portion of Three's serials, but Nine is the only one I've ever seen open that little door. That would make a _heck_ of a lot more sense, since the general public isn't really expected to open the main door of the thing [is dumb]
And I've definitely rambled on far longer than I should have already, but I did want to say that your icon amuses me to no end. Also, your sig quote rocks on toast ^_^

Heh... You can thank for "rocks on toast." It is quite a humourous expression.
Semesters are half a school year ("semi-" = "half" - yay for linguistics!) For those of us in college, as well as some high schools, you start a completely new schedule of classes each semester (as opposed to elementary and middle/junior high schools and most high schools, where you have the same schedule all year).
...Hopefully that was informative and not just, y'know, _boring_ [rolls eyes at self]

Oh we divide years into 3 parts, autumn spring and summer term and you keep the same schedule for at least a year.

That, just rules. Very creative--I'm not very good with artsy craftsy type stuff and I KNOW I would've have been able to work out electrical lighting. And everybody around me would've stopped me if I _did_ try, for their own safety as well.
The most creative sculpturey type thing I've ever done is a Lego version of the flying train from Back to the Future III...with doors that open properly, smokestacks, jet booster things on the back, and everything. But that's it. (Ironic, though, that I _also_ made a time machine... )
...Notorius

Time machine sculpture thingummies are good times. And if your train doors opened properly, then it was a step ahead of my TARDI.
And, surprisingly enough given my...special talent for destroying everything I possibly can, I still haven't even shocked myself a little, and I've only burnt out one IC - it didn't even smoke, so it wasn't even a spectacular screw-up and no one else ever got an opportunity to laugh. I'm sure I've just jinxed myself, but I suppose the immutable laws of nature can only be suspended so long.
...It's obviously well past my bedtime.
