Description
This is another of the concepts I did created for our initial push during HotS development to revisit the couple of Zerg units that hadn't made it into Liberty.Looking back at it I might have tried to make it a bit heavier-looking, but I had a lot of fun with this still - I always loved guardians, and they were quite iconic since they showed up a lot in the cinematics, invading planets with the zerg swarm.
Either way, I was really happy with the way *PhillGonzo worked up the final model !

Every time I see a group of these coming toward my carriers, I can't figure out whether to pull back or reach for the lemon salt, butter, and a BIG pan of boiling water...

The Guardian would be proud that it's successor has continued the tradition of being a teeth-gnashingly annoying ass that hangs just outside of your AA defense's range and hitting them from afar while you desperately try to recall your flying units. Wasn't until then that I realized how useful Vipers really are.

Oh man. I've been waiting to see this from you for SOOO much longer than I'd like to admit. It's such a great evolution from your Mutalisk Design. I'm EXTRA glad to see these guys and their noodly little faces got a proper model, too. Thanks a TON for the awesome work!

In my opinion, this is the only unit of the three you guys revisited that doesn't measure up to the original, or at least doesn't pay adequate homage to it. A lot of the original shape language is lost.

This is probably my favourite because the armour looks like tough but smooth chitin exoskeletons of insects and crustaceans, not rough and jagged like a wood bark or a rough stone surface.

I always get a great nostalgia kick whenever I see these things. You captured it beautifully and did a terrific job with the concept art! Just wanted to pass on some gratitude, as I got my hands on the art of HoTS, and think you did stunning work for it. Can't wait to see what you'll come up with for Legacy of the Void!
