This episode is brought to you bySuddenly, a wooden staff appeared in Angela's hand. It was bright red with gold, rounded fixtures on the tips. Almost instinctively, Angela began to practice basic swings and thrusts. She felt the hairs on her arms standing on end. She tried some more complex maneuvers, following her graceful yet powerful swings with nimble acrobatics. Exhilirated with her new abilities, she found herself loudly shouting at the completion of each new move. She was vaulting off the staff, twirling it behind her back and over her shoulders, sometimes practically scrambling up it before launching into a forceful aerial swing.
It wasn't long before she noticed that her shouts were giving way to high pitched screeches. She stopped and looked at her arms. They were now covered in hair! She also realized that she was somehow still twirling her staff. Looking behind her, she could see it spinning in the grip of a prehensile tail. She screeched again, this time in shock. Her whole body was covered in hair, which was quickly turning a golden color. Angela needed a place to clear her head. As soon as she thought of leaving the archives, a cloud appeared at her now handlike feet and scooped her up. She looked down and nodded to herself, finding this new method of transport more convenient than her old broom. She wasn't sure where her journey from the archives would take her, but for some reason she felt like heading west.

What anime HAVE you seen?

Not much, and not lately. The most recent anime I've watched (all the way through, at least) is Kill la Kill. I guess that's not true, actually. I watched the first season of Aggretsuko, Attack on Titan, and Hi-Score Girl. I've watched all of PSG and Gurren Laggan. Other than that, most of my repertoire is pre-early 2000s. Outlaw Star, Cowboy Bebop, The Big O, Serial Experiment Lain, Steamboy, Akira (duh), Vampire Hunter D (just the 1st movie), and a handful of movies they used to show on the SciFi Channel (pre SyFy days!). I watched a bunch of Bleach, but anime adaptations of Shonen Jump manga are exhausting. A friend took me to see the last One Piece movie, but I never really watched the series. I like the b/w art of the books too much.

I'd sooner get into a fistfight with Goku myself than cross the Monkey King. He's immortal, invincible, regularly defeats almost every god, and knows enough spells to outdo pretty much every other magic in existence.

He can prove somewhat of a challenge to the monkey king

Honestly, if public domain-inspired characters weren't allowed, he wouldn't have been able to finish any of the chains involving vampires- borrowing from the aesthetics of Dracula, Nosferatu, all that good classic gothic horror shit.

It bends the rule, in that many different things have been based on Journey to the West, so she's not the character itself. I'm coming from a place of near-complete ignorance on the subject, of course. I only know that Dragon Ball is loosely based on it somehow, and there's that SonSon chick from Marvel vs. Capcom 2.
