Angela's head began to itch. She raked her hair to one side with her fingers, only to find that the side of her head was now shaven underneath her long hair. She felt several more pieces of jewelry in nearly every available part of her ear. Blue bangs hung lazily in front of her face. She coughed twice, noticing only now that a lit clove cigarette was in her hand. She wondered how old that spell had made her, not that it was going to stop her from smoking.

Seriously. Smoking age is such arbitrary bull**** anyway. What does the guy at the convenience store care if I want to buy a pack? It's my body.

Angela took a drag, not certain if it was another drag or her first, and regarded her clothes, her hair, her piercings. Underborough may be a world full of monsters, but her abrupt change in appearance was sure to cause a stink among her family and friends. She thought about her brother and his friends. In one afternoon, she'd out-goth'd them all. Besides, they had it all wrong. They were all too willing to be Winifred's minions the moment she stepped out of that portal. Not so for Angela. She was no longer looking for anyone's acceptance. She didn't have to live up to anyone else's standards, not anymore. So what if it took a random magic spell to do it? She was free from society's conventions.

"Free," she said aloud, ashing her cigarette on the stone floor. "Then why the hell am I so unhappy?"
