-Ruby Red was born and raised in Canterlot. Her mother was a gemologist and her father was an actor. Even though her parents wanted her to follow in their hoofsteps, they would support her in any career that she would choose. She ultimately chose to be like her mother and learn to become a jeweler. After winning first place in a jewelry competition with her hoof crafted ruby ring, Ruby knew she had found her calling. Ruby worked in Canterlot for a year and found that the clientele’s demands were becoming too much for her to bear and decided to bring her wares to Manehatten where she found much more success. Ruby was also looking for her special somepony and found that Canterlot was too refined for her tastes. Ruby tried and tried to find her special somepony in Manehatten but nopony was willing to give her a chance. This made Ruby depressed and it reflected in her work when her success started to dip. Ruby decided that she needed to take a vacation to cheer herself up and temporarily gave control of her store to her manager. Ruby felt rejuvenated after coming back from her vacation and was ready to get back to work, and continue the hunt for her special somepony. One day, one of her managers talked to her about taking an expedition to the Everfree Forest to discover some new materials to use in her work. Ruby was cautious but agreed to the expedition and left for Everfree the next day. While riding through the dense forest in a carriage, Ruby and her team were blindsided by some unknown creature and was knocked unconscious. When she awoke, she was all alone with the carriage and badly hurt. She cried and screamed not only for help but also due to the pain. Nopony answered her call and Ruby thought she was done for. Moments later, three ponies came up to the wreckage and discovered her in her wounded state. Ruby could not recognize due to her vision being blurred from head trauma and tears. The three ponies carried her to a tree like house and Ruby faded in and out of consciousness. When she awoke, she saw a face painted pony standing over her quietly uttering an ancient incantation. She also saw two other ponies observing what the face painted pony was doing. Upon looking at her own body, she was surprised to see that she was radiating with a faint yellowish light. When the shaman pony finished the incantation, Ruby was flabbergasted to see that she was fully healed. She then looked wide eyed at the shaman pony without saying a word. The shaman pony smiled and said “A simple healing ritual. Oh, and your welcome.” After learning about the shaman pony and his disciples, Ruby felt that she was in his debt and wished to become his third disciple. Xander agreed and Ruby was never more grateful. Ruby was excited but also worried about her new surroundings but Xander’s other disciples, Iron Hide and Storm Cloak, assured her that she would be safe in Xander’s care. Ruby Red quickly became friends with them all and has taken a particular interest in Iron Hide. Ruby Red now serves Xander and is ready to take on the new challenges that will come her way.

-A conversation with her master halfway through PKNB7: Ruby Red: "Um, Xander?"
Xander: "Yes, Ruby?"
RR: "Its about the tournament and the more battles I observe, the more nervous I get."
Xander: "The calm before the storm."
RR: "Exactly, I've seen what I could be up against and, I fear for my well-being. Not only that but, there is a crowd watching! What if they don't like me?" *Trying not to cry.*
Xander: "Ruby, look at me."
RR: *Looks at Xander misty eyed.*
Xander: *Puts a hoof on her shoulder* "I know it is scary to put yourself out there and risk wounding your pride if your peers see you fail. I found it a little scary the first time too."
RR: "You did?"
Xander: "Of course, I experienced failure. Life is built upon learning from failures. The more I learned from them, the less scared I was of failing. Don't tell me you never failed at something."
RR: "Yeah, I failed quite a bit when I was pursuing becoming a jeweler."
Xander: "What did you learn?"
RR: "A lot. It helped that my mother was there to teach me that from a young age. I just... forget how important it is."
Xander: *Smiles* "This tournament will be no different. In fact, when your battle comes up, look in the crowd."
RR: "For who? For you?"
Xander: "No... your parents."
RR: What! But they-"
Xander: "Are worried about you. I know they were worried sick about you and I took it upon myself to explain where you are and what happened to you. They know what you signed up for. They know you are here to get stronger. They are here to support you."
RR: "And if I lose?"
Xander: "A trivial question Ruby. I will be proud of my little girl no matter what."
RR: ".....dad would say that to me all the time. In fact, this whole conversation brings me back to when I was just a filly and my dad was there to get me through those difficult times. Just like... what you are doing."
