As I say in my notes, This is inspired by the “Emporer Koko and his attendants in the snow” by Kuniyoshi! It was made in c. 1842 and based on the quote by Emperor Koko:

“ For my lord’s sake/ I went out into the fields of spring/to pick young greens/ while on my robe/the snow kept falling and falling.”

He wears high wooden boots, but his attendants appear to be bare footed! Brrrr! My little Children are observing events again!
