Description Here are some more sketches that I've been doing in the last few days. These are of my flagship OC, the strong yet beautiful and sexy Nikki Vetter aka "Diamond". I have been doing some thinking, and as much as I've been enjoying all of the cheesecake/pin-up style of drawing in 2009, I want to do more action shots and scenes, and hopefully venture into the realm of sequential art/comics for my OCs. I know everyone's been enjoying seeing Sapphira a lot, but Nikki is who I want to focus on to develop a story/comic for. Don't worry...that doesn't mean that you won't be seeing Sapphira around anymore, I'm just gonna focus more on developing Nikki as an action character than I will be focusing on Sapphira being a sex symbol!

Not to mention, being that Nikki's design is fairly simple to draw repeatedly she's an ideal candidate to be my sketching muse. So from here on out, whenever I do some pics and feature Nikki, they will be a part of my new sketch series entitled "Diamond In the Rough", being that her name is Diamond and these are rough sketches/doodles of her! Here's a little sketch dump of her with a few different poses and two headshots that I did a few nights ago before going to bed! You'll notice that I've given my own commentary on each pose as to what I think of it.

I use stick figure/skeletal structure when I sketch and draw my figures as well.Often times some of your best work as artist is done in a sketch book.^_^

I definitely need to start doing more pure sketches...I have a bad habit of wanting to make everything into a completed work rather than to just have some random rough practice doodles.

I catch myself doing that too at times. I keep asketch book around whenever I come up with ideas though.

Practicing with Nikki, sweet. Now we need some Raina.

Yep yep! I actually had a sketch that I made Raina holding a gun, but it looked so bad that I didn't include it in this batch of sketches. Not to say that some of these were so great themselves, but the one that was supposed to be Raina was BAD! But don't worry...she's gonna get some sketchin' love too!

Keep plugging away. It's great to see you're practicing. That figure on the right looks pretty good. The profile view is something I struggle with and still practice with all the time; in your case it appears her eye looks too large and is too close to the front of the face.

Don't forget to pay close attention to the smaller parts too. Don't just draw arms; put together well-drawn shoulders, bicep/tricep combinations, forearms that taper properly into wrists, and hands with properly-aligned fingers. It's all a process. Same with legs; they're a combination of thighs, hips, knees, shins, calves, ankles, feet and toes, and all need to be drawn a certain way to be effective. Look closely at models (male and female) to see how all the parts work together; it will help your understanding of anatomy and that will, in time, result in better drawings.

I have issues with the profile shot as well...in addition to the eye, I tend to make the forehead too curvy and it looks weird.

And duly noted on the rest of your tips! I did rush some of the poses and didn't pay it more attention that it needs. Thanks for the tips as always!
