There are substantial differences in the way humans make their technology vs the Convergence. Where humans all have separate minds, and need a common plan to build to, the Convergence has a single hive-mind. This frees up the convergence to get really creative with each and every item they create. Convergence ray-pistols are like deadly, technological snowflakes, each one is unique.
