The announcer had just finished naming the fighters standing across each other in the ring, but Samantha Armstrong couldn’t help but be lost in thought as she stood tall in her corner, the crowd just white noise to her as her mind began to wander. It had been a long time since she was positioned so low on a fight card, let alone in the opening match. Sam always took it as a small source of pride that her skill and abilities, as well as maybe some other factors, often kept her away from the undercard. Sam thought to herself that perhaps it was something she had taken for granted for a long time as the undercard was always reserved for up and comers needing experience, fighters past their primes looking for that last moment of fleeting glory, or fighters meant to give the crowd a break. The few times Sam was positioned on the undercard she found herself as a part of the opening fight. In Sam’s mind, as an opener, there was always an extra factor to her fights; setting the tone for the rest of the night, to get the crowd going, and to challenge everyone after her to follow her performance. Sam’s trainer Cassandra Langley frequently admonished Sam for her change of style to “set the tone” rather than fighting her own fight and focus solely on winning the match as was doing so again as the two found themselves the first act of a brutal multi-act theater.
But those feelings didn’t matter to the man standing at the opposite corner as her; a man as ugly as he was mean, a man who was bigger and stronger than her, a man by the name of Levi Taverston. The one, sole object on Levi’s brain that bounced back and forth infecting every facet of his mind and being; payback. The dull thud of his gloves punching together echoing over the static crowd noise as Sam could easily see that Levi just wanted the bell to ring and for the fists to start flying, his eyes never leaving away from Sam.
“Not the type of stare you’re accustomed to Sam?” Cass broke in, trying to break the tension and bringing Sam’s mind back into the fight and away from wherever it might have been wandering off to. Sam couldn’t help but let out a slight chuckle, flashing her pretty smile as she did, but before she could properly respond the referee interjected himself.
“Fighters! To the center of the ring!” The ref yelling out, waving his hands, motioning for both fighters to join him. Sam turned towards Cass and responded instead with a little smile before Cass tapped Sam on the shoulder before the two made their path towards the center of the ring, Sam leading the way. Levi doing the same as his gaze never directing away from Sam. The rage boiling up inside of Levi with each step, his teeth digging deeper into his mouth guard, fists balling tighter in his gloves, his stride growing longer, eyes narrowing, muscles tensing, stomping, growling. Until Levi couldn’t hold it back any further, charging right in at Sam with fist cocked back. Sam, her fists pointed downwards, caught completely unaware until it was too late, Levi’s lust for revenge had struck as he lashed out, his fist crashing upwards into Sam’s chin, instantly snapping her head back as blood sprayed freely into the air. Cass gasped, instinctively clenching her fists before the arena gasped in unison preceding a mixture of cheers and howls of discontent as Sam hit the mat with a loud thud.
The referee quickly stepped between the two fighters as Cass fell quickly to her knees, checking on Sam, blood trailing down Sam’s chin from her mouth, eyes half open. The fight hadn’t even started and Sam was already down, and if the fight had started the ref would have counted to ten before Sam was able to finally come to thanks to Cass’ expert help, but Sam wasn’t quite all there as her head looked to be on a swivel with a far off look in her eyes.
“Huh bitch! Look at you now!” Levi taunted, waving at Sam to get back up to her feet and fight as the ref called out to the judges outside of the ring for Levi to be penalized as Sam, shakily, started to get back up to her feet with Cass’ help.
The message was clear, this wasn’t going to be a boxing match. This was going to be a fight, a war. The tone had been set.

I can see Sam having a really tough time. The way he opened up on her has set the scene. Now he has her groggy, if he has any sense, he will enjoy himself thumping into her gorgeous firm young body. Imagine smacking punch after punch into Sam's smooth silky body. punching into her belly, and lashing her rubbery firm breasts for fun. He is going to really enjoy this. Sam is in for a real working over I fear. I wonder if her little bra top will be able to withstand his fists without ripping open?

I don't think there is going to be a rematch, seeing as he has knocked her head clean off her neck. She's not getting back up. She is dead. Unless the top of her skull is somehow attached to her neck so that her head naturally sits upside-down. Even her friend nearby looks astounded by how easy her neck has snapped in two.
According to the story supplied, she just gets knocked on her rear. If this is true, then you may need to adjust the image to reflect that. The human body follows the lead of contact point, which at this point is the head being thrust backwards by a punch to the chin. Push her back some and give her a curve following that line of motion. Because with the amount of force being applied to her face, she would not be standing straight up as she is.
Her expression is also way too relaxed to have just been socked in the face. Pain hurts, so I would figure she would be showing pain. Instead, she looks like she's asleep. I doubt the ring is a place to take a casual nap.

Haha! You got me on this. I took a bit of "artistic license" on this one (such as the boob growing out of the arm) for the sake of the scene and the story.
Believe it or not, I'm quite aware of the broken neck and odd reaction of the body to the blow but I actually purposely kept her body up straight to put across that the attack was sudden and was unprepared for so she's more flat footed but still wanted to show the power of the punch since the reaction is always the key to showing how powerful a punch was so I unnaturally bent her neck back to do so. I know it makes no sense when figure drawing with real bones and muscles as compared to drawing a cartoon character who can be stretched beyond limits and usually I would do it closer to more properly.
Though you are correct about the body following the point of contact, many knockouts have shown the other reaction of the body is to crumble upon it's own weight straight down to the ground (see it more in MMA than anything), not saying you're incorrect or anything or even that's what I was thinking in this pic (I wasn't) because wanted to mention it.
As for the facial expression, yeah, I'm pretty guilty on that one too as not being able to get the expression to look the way I wanted so I went with keeping it basic.
Thanks for the feedback.

I can understand taking artistic license on a pose. After all, sticking to full realism on a cartoon character can make things incredibly dull and pushing a pose can make things much more dynamic. It just stood out to me so much because it honestly looks like that angle of her neck would be fatal. Plus I felt that putting a motion curve in her body would have not only made the image more dynamic, but would have actually made his punch look more powerful. You could even still make the blow look unpredicted by having her arms just limply following the curve because she just got knocked senseless. Even if she was dropping straight down, she still looks a little too stiff for that.
For the expression, try making what you think a pained expression would be in a mirror. An artist is their best model, after all. Otherwise, even just furrowing her brow and giving her a teeth-baring frown would make it more dramatic.
I just think this image would really cool if she wasn't so stiff and...broken, as compared to her attacker who has this really powerful pose.
You're welcome. Thank you for accepting it.

Well, the angle of the neck is fatal, but I understand that the curve would have made the image more dynamic overall, and I thought about having the arms lift up in motion with the head but I figured it would look funny without the body motion so I sort of went all in of sorts and thought this manner better conveyed the sense of surprise, though I knew it wouldn't be agreed upon by everyone.
As for the expression, trust me, I have a rather large folder of myself and found pictures of pro-fights of pained expressions, the problem was just no matter what I did it didn't look right or looked too ridiculous so I decided to not go with it. But I overall went with the "out of it" expression of the pained look expression to better represent the lack of consciousness.
But I do appreciate it, even if much of it felt like it was on the back of a hand.

It is your drawing, if you felt it was the best route, then that is the best route you can go.
I apologize if my critique felt blunt, I have a tendency to type them out as I look and forget to fluff it out. It's also a habit developed in college when I had to say what I needed to quickly and clearly.

Sam's going to have a tough time with this fight. Downed before the opening bell, odds are good Levi's going to follow up on it. It could take some work before Same can get situated and start a counterattack, from the looks of things.

He'd be stupid not to follow up on it (and who knows, maybe he is stupid) and it's going to take quite a bit of work for Sam to properly counter-attack after what just happened.

Or he could try and provoke Sam into coming after him by adding insult to injury.
Either way, it'll be difficult. If Sam can't fight the way she usually does, the canvas will be gradually painted with her blood...
