This is really great. I am currently struggling with a self-portrait in oil and trying to keep myself from making the brush strokes overly tight. This is an inspiration. You've got sharp edges to things, but the chunky pieces of oil are vague enough at times, but perfectly placed where it counts. Well, that isn't quite what I mean.
I also love the way the figure emerges from the dark. I haven't seen the original, should go check it out. Very nice work.
