this one is for personal thoughts and trivia, please check the first part for a more appropriate story!
first part -> DTA - Alphabean U: Uriel (part 1/2)
As much as I wanted to write a small tale for Uriel, I'm not exactly good with writing, so I was afraid that the entry could become a bit confusing nor explain exactly what I wanted, I also wouldn't be able to explain some of my decisions without breaking the story's flow. That's why I separated my entry in two parts, first one for the story, and second (this) one for my personal thoughts and notes, so that's what you'll find here ´ v `//
CREATIVE PROCESSThe first thing I noticed about Alphabean U (Uriel) is that he wears underwear, which is quite pointless considering bagbeans don't have buttholes nor sexual organs, so I thought it could have been a habit he acquired while in human world, during Identity Trial. With this I had the kickstarter idea for Uriel: he's a bagbean who spent so much time in human world he even got used to some of their habits. With this on mind, next step was to decide why he stayed for too long and then why he came back.
The reason for returning was actually pretty easy to decide, yet quite personal. While brainwashing and working on my entry, the situation on Brazil, my country, was very chaotic because of political instability and radical ideology against minorities, it got a bunch of us worried and anxious, me and my spouse shiroganeRyo included. Meanwhile, Hollowbean Fetival was happening, we took part on inktober, trick-or-treat and the bright minds events, (while I was also thinking about this entry) it was super fun and became kind of a coping method for us, because that way we could forget about the "human world's" problems and relax at "Griffia" for a while. So that's also what Uriel did, to escape from his problems, he went back to Griffia.
Lastly, the reason for staying put me thinking about many things. At the same time it had to be a reason good enough for him to stay, I didn't want it to be super dramatic, so I ended up with love. Love is, in my opinion, the strongest reason for staying. I said before that me and my spouse used Griffia as a coping method, it distracted us but obviously, we were still in the human world, even if I actually got the chance to physically go to Griffia, I wouldn't go, because those who I love (my spouse, my parents, my friends) are all here and it per ser, is a strong enough reason for me to stay. Uriel stayed as long as he had love.
Please notice! I slightly mentioned the chaotic situation of my country and its consequences on me because it was the reason behind my inspiration and managing to get something positive (inspiration) from it is worth sharing imo. I don't want people to think I'm saying it as a dirty move to get the bagbean, I'm mature enough to know that having or not a fictional character won't fix my country's situation :'3
NAME CHOICEUsing the first letter of our names is a very popular motif, but obviously, only if we like our name. So I needed a name starting with U, but it also needed to be a name fitting enough to be used as his theme, since a bagbean's theme is somehow related to what they lived during Identity Trial... I think. The name Uriel first came to my mind because his long, dark, wavy hair reminds me of Uriel from Angel Sanctuary . This character is based on the Archangel with same name, from (if I'm not mistaken) Jewish and Christian tradition, someone of great hierarch and power, hence A REALLY COOL NAME he could have learned about while in human world, since it's a being from human mythology.
FUTURE PLANSThe "if I get him what I'll be doing" part!
As you probably could notice by my drawings, I plan two small tweaks on his design. Humans don't (or at least, they shouldn't) walk around in underwear, since he got used to human world he'd wear pants when outside, and stay in underwear when at home... no worries, the pink undies aren't going anywhere! haha I'd also tie his hair and ears on ponytail sometimes, abstract bagbeans have big ears that may be on the way sometimes, mostly if we consider that as human he had really small ears, so he ties them up sometimes for practicality.
I'd also do ally trial for him and my tox Ibiza. I like to think that Uriel eventually comes to visit and tell Ibiza some stories from his time in human world. Sadly I just work on griffia related stuff when I have free time, which is Saturday and/or once I have reached my monthly money goal, so it may take a while since Ibiza is still missing lots of trials, but yes, that's something I'd like to eventually do.
Since I really like cropeas I will likely create one for him, but I'm still not sure about it, same for soulmate.
STORY EXPLAINED I wanted to make Uriel's story a bit more interesting to read than just a plain text, so I did the box thing where you need to check each item in order to understand his past part by part and then take your own conclusion of what exactly happened. I'm not sure of how well it worked and even tho putting a summary of it kills part of them fun, I'm better safe than sorry :'3 so, summary:
Uriel went to the human world to complete his Identity Trial like every bagbean but there he met a sociology student named Wang, who told him about the archangel Uriel. Wanting to repay Wang, the bagbean sent them a letter with a dystbun puff he had brought with him from Griffia, which got the student curious about the puff's origin. Uriel then told them about Griffia and Wang saw in it the potential for a big research and told their teacher, what made the griffolk mad so they promised to keep it a secret.
After that, Uriel and Wang became close and eventually got into a romantic relationship, the bagbean was in love and happy as a human. They got an apartment tgt and Uriel was already certain of spending the rest of his life in the human world, but Wang never gave up the idea of publishing a study about their partner's homeland, they were secretly writing every info they could get from him and stashing it in a pendrive with a lock, so that no one would know the content until it's finished.
When the study was ready to be published, Wang participated in an interview, which got published on a newspaper article and informed Uriel about his lover's plan. With the article on hand, Uriel questioned Wang about it and their promise, they argued as Wang didn't think it was such a big deal and that the profit from the research would give them a way better life. Feeling that his partner prefers their publication over him, during the night Uriel took the pendrive and a few belongings, locked Wang on their apt and ran away back to Griffia.
He clearly was still in love with Wang when left since everything he brought was related to his partner, but heartbroken enough to decide to let it go after a few days, that's why he visited Ibiza. Three notes about it: Wang's gender is undefined, I didn't want to set a gender for them. Wang has a bad memory, so without the pendrive nor Uriel they wouldn't be able to rewrite their thesis. The password for the pendrive is 52002, May 2002, the month they met.
TRIVIA
- When I told my spouse I'd join this DTA and showed him Uriel's design, the first thing he said was that he looks like his socks and welp.... that's true. Uriel probably has the same model.
- My spouse also said Uriel looks like a grumpy weather forecaster. I accepted it as canon. He's currently unemployed since he just got back to Griffia, but once he's settled he'll become a weather forecaster and announce miserable temperatures with thermal sensation of death.
- Another habit Uriel got from human world was that of being always prepared for casualties, so he always carries an umbrella for occasional rains and his bag is always on it's limit: he always has a cutlery set as well as a packed lunch, tissues, some migrane pills, this specific candy and probably a bunch of other things he judges to be useful but aren't.
- Ibiza was actually my first Griffolk and I got her in an official DTA, so I thought it would be nice if she was friends with Uriel, since he's also from a DTA, but unofficial this time.
