I never thought Minecraft looked crappy, I just like to use tex. packs to change it up from time to time.

I can't decide if it should be on top or jutting from the side of the mountain

I think the edge near the middle of the picture, it might blend in more to suit the scene while if it juts out the mountain it might not look as well.
