Description

The Black Tourney is one of the most scarring events in the history of Pokemon tournaments to date. Coordinators from the world over traveled to enter this tournament, being at the time a simple contest tournament with a creepy overtone held by a mysterious Master of Ceremonies. Nobody could have guessed things would turn out as bad as they did.

Of the initial population of coordinators, only 14 contestants managed to make it to the end of the twisted games. The MC was a Darkraii by the name of Rakayni. A creature that grew stronger the more negative emotions it absorbed. By the time the finalists were chosen, Rakayni had enough power to distort space and time itself.

Rakayni played with the contestants' minds and souls. Some relived lost love, some remembered an old pain, others... lived the pain.

Athens "Black Dragon" Runner was shot during the tournament. The story changes on who's telling it, but he was hurt. Bad. His Sceptile, Brian, received a powerful Flamethrower attack to his right half. all in all, they were worse for the wear.

Approaching Rakayni in the basement, Brain lived his worst nightmare.

~~**~~

One year later, a tournament was held in remembrance of this horrible tragedy. Chuckling to himself, Athens wondered why the hell he was doing this. Signing up and following Brian back to the prep room, he was sat down as the Sceptile pulled out several props and approximately a metric shit ton of special effects makeup. No words were spoken, and the bulled scars were covered in makeup. Fake blood was applied to Brian's thigh, his right arm covered in "bloodied" bandages. His right side was gussied up to look as if his skin was burned off.

It was probably the most elaborate setup yet. Playing their parts, Brian showed off how he dealt with the horrors that he experienced in the Black Tourney. By showing the audience what his nightmares from that day since have been.

~~**~~

Alrighty then. I'm pretty happy with this piece.

Because I know that somebody will fail to get it, allow me to tell you what this piece is, what it is in universe, and then credits.

This is a contest entry for the current Super Contest. the themes were Nightmare or Resurrection. I chose Nightmare, and decided to show the two halves of Brian the Sceptile's nightmares about the Black Tourney.

In universe, that's a crap ton of horror effects makeup, some very convincing props, a fancy harness hooked up to a fly rail, and a crapton of TV's showing footage from the Black Tournament.

That footage up there? Yeah, I plucked some images form people's black tourney pages. I don't remember who all I janked images from, but I am not really attempting to steal anyone's work and I can remove them if need be (saved them in a separate layer to themselves just in case).

(also if I need to mature this for the depictions of blood do let me know, thought I am sure other media is bloodier)

So yeah. c:

A very powerful image portrayed here. I really like the overall concept and imagination behind it, and can clearly see why you have it featured as your favorite piece. You really knew how to set the mood in this one. Amazing work!

Jesus, your mood-inducing skills! (And after reading the first comment that... that pun wasn't intended but I see no point in changing it... )

The shading's all really really nice and set off nicely by the bright points induced by the whitewash of tv screens and the prop Darkrai's eyes! (And also Jesus, your lighting effects!) I am kinda sad that Darkrai's just a really convincing prop, but maybe in the attack-appeal we'll get a bit more animation out of the thing than what I'm expecting. (Not to say I think it needs it - one can only be so animated after being utterly destroyed by a pokemon desperate to protect its trainer.)

Pffft, wait until next round~

I guess the only reason I say it's a prop is because I didn't want there to be an actual Darkrai in anybody's party, but whatevs. I'm thinking it's like an Audry II or Jurassic Park dino anamatronic puppet - those are seriously badass.

Thanks for the nice compliments c:

Ooohooohooh! o.o *bounces in place like a monkey*

Yeah, I figured you'd want to avoid using a real legendary in just about anything, and that is awesome. ^^

Omg, I've never been to Disneyland/wherever that ride is but I love their animatrons!!!

Pshaw, you're welcome. ^^
