I had decided that for Pride Month this year I wanted to start displaying something reflective of my own sexuality on my profile - and that I wanted to create whatever that was myself. I wanted something that had more significance to me than just a flag. I just found out about International Asexuality Day about a week ago and decided to hurry up and finish this project so I could share it today.

For the curious or confused: The subject of romance/relationships within the Transformers franchise is quite common and has been present since the beginning. However, Transformers are, by design, asexual. Meaning, despite what any fanfiction will try to tell you, they do not reproduce sexually, nor engage in reproductive behaviors similar to those of humans. (That’s not to say there aren’t good fanfics out there containing this idea, however, and I personally love the idea of spark-bonding).

For some, the idea of Transformers (or any being) having the ability to experience love and romantic attraction without being able to or wanting to have sex is silly or even wrong. As an asexual human, I beg to differ. Before being introduced to the concept of Transformers couples/relationships, I felt as though being in love with someone offered something I didn’t want, or at least everyone else seemed to want a relationship for a reason I could not fathom. Seeing Transformers couples together for the first time felt like soul recognition. For as much as a kids cartoon could depict romance and couples, I understood the dynamics of their relationships immediately, related to them, and (later) had a point of reference to help explain my sexuality and the type of relationship I could actually visualize myself having. I am eternally grateful for this influence on my life.

I tried to stay as true to the original insignia as possible. Though it’s not perfect, it was so relaxing to work on and I’m thrilled with how it turned out. Would love to see others use this on their profiles as well.
