Description This was another random pic I did for fun. And it helped me nail down a few more design details for Jack, like the broken cuffs and the design on the back of his jacket.

His story's really coming together, and I'd really like to make it a real thing. I have all these crazy character designs that I haven't uploaded yet that go way beyond the initial western storyline.

I also discovered the crosshatch effect brush, which lead to this background, hurr.

I used a pic of the new Dante from Devil May Cry for the pose [link] , funny how that turned out

On another note, I've been listening to the Anarchy Reigns soundtrack a lot lately, and a bunch of the songs fit perfectly with Jack. Especially this one. [link]

Yup. Pretty cool character, I like how he sounds true chaotic in nature. Great dynamic for a story, the reader will truly never know how he will handle a situation until the scene plays out, and that's really exciting! You don't see that anywhere else. Most characters are pretty predictable.

Looked up an in-depth description of what Chaotic Neutral entailed because I haven't studied up on my alignments in a while.

"A chaotic neutral character follows his whims. He is an individualist first and last. He values his own liberty but doesn't strive to protect others' freedom. He avoids authority, resents restrictions, and challenges traditions. A chaotic neutral character does not intentionally disrupt organizations as part of a campaign of anarchy. To do so, he would have to be motivated either by good (and a desire to liberate others) or evil (and a desire to make those different from himself suffer). A chaotic neutral character may be unpredictable, but his behavior is not totally random. He is not as likely to jump off a bridge as to cross it."

Interestingly, the article I took this from seems to refer to the character archetype as a follower rather than a leader. Are chaotic neutral lead protagonists really that uncommon?

This is actually really interesting. [link] I read through the whole thing and it basically described Jack to a T. Meanwhile I had always been under the impression that I was writing him as a chaotic good type character, ie, a person who puts himself first, but still abides by a loose moral creed (In Jack's case, thou shalt not kill innocents)

I always thought C. Neutral characters simply did random acts all over the scale of good to bad mostly with no rhyme or reason, but it says in the article that they do follow a bit of a code, but more for practicality than moral righteousness.

Holy homework batman! Anyway yes I think chaotic neutral leads are pretty rare. But I think Jack will work out great that way, well chaotic good anyway. But I like that ( my guess is) he may not always even try to do the right thing in a given situation. My lead is somewhat dual personalities. So he's the best a worst of both worlds in one. Hes actually the stories main villain and hero in one. But depending what sides in control, you can easily guess how he's gonna react. ... I don't remember what my point was. I like jack.

MrEther In reply to AtlinFahl [2013-04-13 05:03:32 +0000 UTC]

Early on, when I decided Jack was going to be the dangerous criminal that he is, I set a couple guidelines as to what would constitute him being out of character.

He has rules against killing anything that doesn't pose a threat, immediate or otherwise, including unarmed innocents, surrendering would-be attackers, children, and non-violent animals. Not because it'd be wrong, per se, but because it takes the fun out of it!

Jack's idea of right and wrong is pretty vague. Some of the decisions he makes have disastrous outcomes as a result.

aaa very cool! I was gonna sue this pose for a picture a while ago too, but I have this issue with poses that don't show off character designs when I draw. I... NEED TO GET OVER IT BUT I'M A DERP! AAA.

works well for diablo jack, though, very cool! looks super dynamic and shit! dem bullets flying 👍: 0 ⏩: 1

MrEther In reply to ToastSamurai [2013-02-05 20:16:34 +0000 UTC]

AAAAHHH, I BEAT YOU TO IT. OHOHOHO~

YEAH, MAN. GET OVER IT. JEEZ.

Considering Diablo Jack is basically exactly like Dante in a lot of ways, to the point where I had to revise his colour scheme, I can see how the pose would fit, I guess.

I ended up making him look even more punk than ever when I redesigned him. Pretty much his entire deal was inspired by this video/the songs off this album. [link]

AHHH, THANKS FOR COMMENTING ON ALL MY SHIT BRO

I wish I had put more bullet casings in the pic, but they don't show up well with that background, so I ended up not doing it. ;A;

As for the crosshatching, I didn't really do much. The brush effect did all the work, I basically just plastered it all over the page.

Well, that's kind of half-true. I'm going to go to school to learn how to do art for work. But yeah, "if you love what what you do, you never have to work a day of your life." I gotta start just rolling with it and having more fun with my art than worrying about improvement all the time. THERE'S SO MANY LIFE LESSONS, MAN. LIKE AN AFTER-SCHOOL SPECIAL UP IN HERE
