I decided to get a little bit ahead of myself, and give everyone something to look forward to. The Shatner/Roddenberry might start to look a little more familiar with the inclusion of the eventual superstructure (in pink). This superstructure increases the functional capacity of the vessel, at the expense of operational performance. However, the expense would be justifiable assuming that VASIMR and nuclear propulsion technologies come of age. To be clear, she'll be slow. Acceleration will seldom be above 1% of Earth gravity (0.1 m/s). But she will be able to get to the farthest planets (under constant acceleration) in months, rather than years.
